Conceived as a calm, grounded sanctuary in the quiet setting of Limdi, Gujarat, this residence embraces the philosophy of slow living through architecture. The design allows everyday life to unfold at a gentler pace, with spaces extending horizontally into the landscape rather than rising vertically, creating a natural relationship between built form, light, and nature. A thoughtfully designed vertical fins facade further strengthens this connection by filtering harsh sunlight, to enhance privacy, and adding depth to the home’s architectural expression. Rooted in the memory of an existing structure on site, the project evolved through a careful process of conservation and transformation, ensuring continuity while redefining the home’s identity for contemporary living.

One of the primary challenges emerged early in the project, when the initial construction reached plinth level but failed to resonate with the client’s vision of slow living. Instead of opting for complete demolition, the design team chose to reinterpret the existing framework with minimal structural intervention. This approach not only reduced material waste but also preserved the emotional value attached to the original home.
The designers addressed the climatic challenges of the west-facing orientation by introducing layered façades, deep overhangs, vertical fins, and integrated landscape buffers that mitigate heat gain while allowing natural light and ventilation.
The designers organized the spatial configuration around fluid transitions and interconnected zones. A central courtyard acts as the heart of the home, bringing in daylight and ventilation while visually linking various spaces.
Public areas such as the double-height drawing room, dining, and kitchen are designed to remain open and connected, while private zones are carefully placed to ensure comfort and privacy.
All bedrooms extend towards balconies or green edges, to reflect a constant dialogue with nature.
Materially, the residence follows a restrained and cohesive palette. Muted concrete textures are balanced with warm wood-finish elements, while interiors incorporate microcement surfaces, fluted panels, marble finishes, and subtle metal accents.
Construction techniques emphasize clean lines, concealed services, and layered detailing to maintain visual clarity. Technology is seamlessly integrated within this framework, enhancing functionality without disrupting the architectural expression.
The result is a home that is both responsive and timeless—where climate, context, and lifestyle are thoughtfully interwoven to create a living experience that is at once efficient, elegant, and deeply personal.
