Designing home for 3 generations can be a challenge. But we were lucky to be designing with a cool and joyful couple. The highlight of apartment is its volume and the ample amount of natural light it offers. Our intent was to capture the essence of volume by keeping the design elegant and easy. The colour palette is muted like a whisper and subtlety is the theme.
The grained-marble-floor entrance is like the overture of a symphony with subtle lighting and an alcove for storage backdropped by a tangerine-hued wallpaper.
It opens into an open plan living-cum- dining area, airy and bright with the morning rays of the sun on the east side and awash in the soft warmth of the sunset on the west side. This apartment comes with the luxury of space where nature walks in uninvited!
The living room is done in a modern classic style with delicate mouldings, classy subtle wallpaper used sparingly. One can see the interplay of colours, texture and finishes.
The beige and pink sofa invites you to lean back in comfort and enjoy blurry lines between the interiors and exteriors. Nuance to the living room is added by two lounge chairs in Ikat fabric.
A contemporary design of temple cabinet is nestled in the living room corner as per vastu. The living does not overpower with grand flourishes, but exudes feeling of warmth and comfort.
The dining area is an inviting space for bonding over tea as the soft rays of a setting sun filter through sheer curtains, creating patterns of light and shadow on the wall above a stunning sideboard. The 8 seater dining is the heaviest furniture set in a subdued setting of walls and textures.
The dining area with free passage around it becomes an ideal space for bonding over sumptuous meals, especially since our clients love to entertain guests over parties.
A sliding glass door in living room opens into the bedrooms.
In the master bedroom, ceiling- to -floor windows allow natural morning light to spill in. Obliging to our client’s wish for a subtle colour palette, this room feels like a cosy oasis in evening when gently lit with signature light fixtures over the bed.
A walk-in-closet behind the sliding door is designed to multi-function as a dressing room. The textural play of glasses, pops of metallic elements in the whispering colour of room gives a calming feeling of happiness and grace.
The uplifting design language is carried over into the grandparent’s bedroom where a vibrant heirloom painting of Radha and Krishna hangs over the tangerine headboard of the bed.
The large size of wardrobe was softened by using austere design of veneer & fluting. The French windows serve up a view of the cityscape at dawn and a glittering urban cameo during sunset.
Nestled on either side of entrance corridor are the kid’s rooms.
The bedroom of teen-age son has a compact bed snuggled in corner of room, offering a view of the lush green-scape beyond. His desire for some spunk whilst keeping the room adult-like gave us the idea to use wood and add hues of his favourite colours.
The wardrobe in veneer with playful customized handles, an area for the boy’s football and racquets and a tv console that doubles as a desk – all impart a youthful air to the room.
Lastly the room we loved designing in its entirety is the daughter’s bedroom. It’s a true reflection of her personality – vibrant, free-spirited and full of life. The room has a bohemian yet stylish feel – a bed with a green fluted headboard and playful pink wallpaper behind adds to the charm of user.
A snug nook for daughter’s favourite books and study area reflects her intellectual personality. The bohemian vibe is married to a vibrant and trendy look.
Knitting it all together our aim was to fulfil client’s vision that fills out the unfettered space of a spacious apartment and breathes life and positive energy into it. The transition from each person’s needs to the final outcome was long but beautiful. Reminiscing the journey of elaborate design ponderings, selections and implementation to the satisfaction of our client to build Gruham – The Home.
