The Extravagance of Muted Palettes Adorn this Residence in Mumbai | M.A.D.E by Urvashi Sathaye and Akshay Creations

This 1150 sq.ft residence is located in a relatively quiet and pleasantly green locality of Mumbai. The clients are an elderly retired couple for whom this will be the family home where they can relax and spend time together, with their children and grandkids visiting often. So, of the 4 bedrooms, we designed 2 as the master bedrooms and one as a guest room. The 4th room is converted into a lounge/ home office space.

The living room and dining room are designed using a muted palette of dusty pink, soft greys, and light sage green tones. All the furniture is custom ordered and upholstered in bespoke fabrics. The layered carpet look mimics the brown and white balance that’s reflected in the rest of the home. The TV unit has a rich veneer paneling on the wall. A sleek white storage unit looks after the storage needs. And a double glass door cabinet at the far end works as a book and display cabinet and completes the set-up.

The dining room has a custom-ordered solid wood table. The chairs are custom made.

Master bedroom 2 is covered in shades of olive green and warm oak wood tones. The built-in wardrobe looks lovely finished in a super matt olive green laminate. The warm oak wood floor creates a beautiful contrast with the green. The bed and side tables are custom made. The bed back wall is kept classic with the addition of a classic set of bedside wall lamps. And a softly patterned wallpaper adds a bit of texture to the room.

Each room has a distinct color palette unique to itself, yet the warm wood tones used throughout the house are what unite the spaces in a harmonious way. The bedrooms are designed with cool blues and warm green tones. A sufficient dose of white and soft greys helps bring balance to the color scheme.

The main master bedroom has fluted wooden paneling as the bed backdrop. The bed and side tables are custom made and the headboard is upholstered in a bespoke fabric from cotton and satins. The built-in wardrobe unit is finished in a veneer and accented with two mirrors. The custom-ordered chest of drawers at the front of the bed looks after the additional storage needs. The beautiful ikat pattern curtain mimics the blues and whites of the bed and bedding set.

The highlight of the guest bedroom is a fantastic veneer paneled wall. Set against this backdrop is a beautiful custom-made upholstered bed with fabric from cottons and satins. The little niche at the back creates a point of focal interest while staying harmonious to the overall look. Soft powder blue curtains help to add a pop of color to the space.

The lounge room/home office room is designed on parallel walls of the 4th room. The home office wall is designed with a straight-lined counter and storage unit which extends at the corner to form the desk. The countertop is finished in white Corian, for a seamless look that’s also easy to maintain.
