Living room

The living room completely opens up to nature with the help of ‘L’ sound-proof windows that add to the breezy feel of the space. Landscaping ingenuity is shown through a specially designed planter tray that does not allow excess water to drip through but directs it towards a down take pipe with the help of a slope.

Bespoke furniture and fittings aim to carry forth the design language of a Cappadocian painting that signifies a sense of airy freeness.

A unique shoe rack crafted with wood and blue texture paint is elevated with bright, hand-painted floral doorknobs and cane shutters for ventilation. A carved, wooden band adds to the finesse of the piece. Jali-patterned grey doors of the room with antique-finish handles and lock blends with the context of the space while evoking the feeling of a warm welcome.

The exposed-brick effect on the wallpaper and a harmonizing blue ledge contributes to the relaxed vibe of the room that takes you to the street side cafes of Mediterranean cities.

Dining area

A wall between the children’s room and dining room was broken to lodge a back-to-back bookcase to accommodate the avid readers – mother daughter’s duo’s extensive book collection. Bold patterns and a playful palette add to the whimsical design elements while highlighting the space and reflecting the theme

A dining space by the bookcase aimed to create a cosy, intimate vibe for the family to indulge in mealtimes, stories and conversations after a long day at work. An old study table was upscaled into a dining table with patterned tiles set against blue to blend through the common thread of the design.

Kitchen

The blue hues continue through the kitchen door and cabinets while beautiful decorative tiles speak Mediterranean all the way.

Common basin area

Common basin area between the bedrooms in carved out and has a utility and aesthetic importance.

An etched stone basin on a simple Shahabad counter top with rustic sand washed laminate created a rustic feel. The blue mosaic and neutral theme complement with the colourful streetscape paintings of Marrakesh.

Children’s bedroom

The all-time favourite 4 poster bed (modified) and colourful high bed back cushioning bring a warm/cosy feel and also addresses the safety of the 5 year old’s beauty sleep.

Backlit cloud cut outs adorn the ceiling of the children’s room to create an almost fairy-tale effect around the blush-coloured walls, much to the delight of the room’s young occupant.

Hand painted art with her choicest television characters beautify the walls along a quote contributed by the client for daily inspiration.

The vibrant coloured backlit bookshelf and desk completes the room.

Children’s bathroom

Daughters’ bathroom flaunts a floral band that continues the dreamy fairy-tale theme.

Mater bedroom

The simple yet elegant master bedroom allows the denim blue to stand out against a neutral backdrop and wood finished placed asymmetrical floor tiles.

Master bathroom

The master bathroom is a play on grey and green textures and shades

Basic Insights of the Project

Please share with us challenges faced by you during the process of design ideation till execution of the project. We are sure there might be many and you would have overcome it successfully.

  • A 15 year old apartment had to be modified into a very contemporary space with a theme (Mediterranean), the space has to be more open and maximum utility had to be considered owing the the small size. We had to undertake a lot of civil alterations.
  • The house is occupied by a family of 3 comprising of parents and a 5yr old but all has their own thoughts and ideas and requirements with respect to the theme, colors, textures and utility.

The daughter wanted candy pink and bright colors which is reflected in her room, the father wanted muted colors and the mother wanted the vibrant blue representing turkey and Mediterranean vibe. Amalgamating the entire requirement list together in one space without making it loud or dull was the main challenge.

What is that one design element in the entire space which has your heart. (please share the image of that/those elements)

  • Enclosed balcony with swing and planter bed
  • The balcony enclosure not only increases the expanse of the living area but also creates a quite cozy nook for the occupant. The specially designed planter bed enhances the connect with nature leaving out the traffic noise from the adjoining main road.
  • This side of the living room has 2 types of seating, One could enjoy the morning sun on the swing or a evening with dim lights and his/her favorite book on the lounge chair. The silver wall texture adds the bling and the delicate embroidered sheer adds to the grace.
