The Office Next Door: A Workspace Creating Efficient, Simple And Elegant Environment | The Concept Lab

We have loved designing the commercial space – “THE OFFICE NEXT DOOR” with the carpet area of 475 sq. Ft located in Surat, Gujarat. The primary focus of the entire design was to keep on the elegance and the simplicity of the area. We tried to successfully work upon the element and take the best use of incorporating the natural light and efficiently bringing out that on the space, hence the materials, the colors, the lights, and all other interior aspects that brought out space as it’s turned out. Well, surely better than what we had planned and expected.

The key areas of design focus: Reception & waiting area, 2 separate cabins specifically for meetings divided by glass partition and a compact pantry, and a washroom. The client had the simplest requirement yet a tough one stating: ‘SPACE that not just catches the client’s attention but also creates efficiency in the workspace.

Reception & waiting area: I always believe the more use of whites in the space the wider it makes the space look. Installed white panel wall behind the reception making it the highlighting wall but at the same time, these are openable and are secretly to hide the windows giving the reception. Moving towards the pantry door, right beside the reception area the door has been inspired by a wooden batten door hence breaking the white and adding another color to this space and grey glass doors for the working cabins. To add that pop and spark of color to the waiting area we have added that in furniture with the bright colored sofa, making the interior as subtle as needed and balancing with the elements, and not making it look boring. The ceiling lights are eye-catching as a linear design has been created.

Coming to the director’s cabin / Boss cabin, the headwall or the back wall has been coated with English green color, and to assure that the wall doesn’t look dull added a pattern of wall groves on 1/4th vertical side of the wall, thus, adding an aesthetic look. Complementing the furniture the console table has been colored accordingly as grey and has used a combination of cane shutters with glass on both sides and popped the overall space by adding tan color that has been used for the sofa and dark wooden flooring.

Moving ahead,  The meeting room has been given a very subtle look by using paneled grey walls with highlighting strip colored in black at the bottom, and an Italian marble tabletop has been installed. Played with lines in space hence vertical lines in the elevation and horizontal linear niche for indirect lighting in the ceiling. The furniture here used is in tones of darker grey and the walls are more in the neutral story. Therefore ensuring the balance in the space.

The partition between the cabins has been done using sandwich glass and motorized Venetian blinds resolving the issues of visibility and privacy at the same time.
