  • 6 DIY Home Décor Ideas For This Holiday Season

The holiday season is one of the best times of the year because this is when friends and family gather together to catch up and bond. A lot of people love the holiday season because they get to give and receive gifts, organize and join holiday parties, and just relax.

There are many ways you can prepare for the holiday season, and filling your home with DIY decors is one of the best ones to go about it. Making DIY home ornaments is a great bonding experience for you and your family, and allows you to transform your home without spending tons of cash. DIY decorations can also function as great ice breakers during parties.

Here are some DIY home décor ideas you can try out for this holiday season:

    1. Christmas Wreath

The decorations seen on your entryway can also give guests an idea on what to expect inside your home. It’ll be challenging for you to spread some Christmas cheer to your friends and family if your front door doesn’t have any ornaments.

A Christmas wreath is one of the easiest ways to transform your entryway. There are many ways on how you can make wreaths. You can use home decor flowers and pair these with some twigs, or glue together some Christmas balls to form a wreath. You can even use several pieces of ribbons or wine corks for your Christmas wreath.
    1. Pine-Scented Candles

If you want your home to feel like Christmas, it’s not enough that you only make decorations that are pleasing to the eyes; you should also consider what you’d smell when you walk into your space. You won’t be able to make the most out of your décor if your home smells bad.

Another DIY home décor piece that you can try this holiday season is a pine-scented candle. It is easy to make and will only require very few materials, such as pine-scented candle oils, wax dye, soy wax chips, and candle wicks.

When using candles as decorations, make sure to place them in high-traffic areas around your home, such as your dining and living rooms. If you’re hosting a party at home for the holidays, place some candles in these areas and light them up hours before the event. This will ensure that your home will smell like pines the moment your guests arrive!

    1. Marbled Ornaments

Your Christmas tree won’t be complete without any Christmas balls. Depending on your theme for this year, you can choose to use Christmas balls in the same color for your tree or mix and match using multi-colored Christmas balls. But, instead of buying your ornaments from stores, why not make them instead?

If you’re looking for ways to spice up your Christmas tree this year, make some marbled ornaments at home. Anyone can complete this project with ease as this will only require some enamel paints and old Christmas balls. Simply pour enamel paints in the water, create a swirl, and then dip your Christmas balls in it. Wait for your Christmas balls to dry for at least 24 hours and you can hang them on our tree.

Regardless if you use the same colors of enamel paints, you won’t end up having the same-looking Christmas balls because the swirls you make in the water will always give off unique marble patterns.
    1. Popsicle Stick Snowflake

Popsicle sticks are one of the most commonly used materials for children’s art project, and if you have some extra pieces at home, make the most out of them by turning them into stick snowflakes.

This project will only require you to use several popsicle sticks and a bottle of glue. Simply arrange your popsicle sticks to form a snowflake, and then glue all of the pieces together. You can retain the wooden color of the popsicle sticks, paint them in white, or even cover them with silver dust.

These DIY snowflakes will look good when placed on plain-colored walls or glass windows. You can also attach a string to these snowflakes and hang them in different areas of your house.

    2. Spoon Mini Trees

People immediately associate Christmas trees with the holiday season, which is why a lot of people would decorate their homes with Christmas trees, or curtains, pillows or table runners with Christmas tree prints on them. If you want your home’s decoration to be different than everyone else’s, make spoon mini Christmas trees.

If you’ve been keeping several plastic spoons at home, cut the tops off using a pair of scissors, and then paint them with any color you like. You can use any type of paint, but spray paint is one of the most convenient. After the tops of your plastic spoons have dried off, glue them in a paper mache that is triangular in structure until you reach the top.

Making mini Christmas trees is an eco-friendly project that can bring more Christmas spirit to your home. You can use these as centerpieces on your tables, or place them on your deck or patio.
    1. Gold-Dipped Bottle Brushes

One of the biggest misconceptions people have when it comes to making DIY home décor pieces is that they’ll have to spend a lot of money to buy the materials. However, this isn’t true because you can actually use damaged or old items around your home for these projects, like your old bottle brushes, for example.

You can turn bottle brushes into unique Christmas ornaments simply by cutting them into small pieces and then dipping them in food coloring (you can pick any color you want). You can also paint the tips of your ‘trees’ with glitter nail polish. Once done, stick your mini trees into wine corks to stand up, and you’re good to go.

These gold-dipped bottle brushes will look good when used as centerpieces on tables. Just make sure that you make several in different sizes to make them more interesting and eye-catching.

    Be Creative And Resourceful

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to have years of experience or several pieces of equipment before you can successfully create DIY décor pieces for the holidays. As long as you’re creative and resourceful, you won’t have any problems creating your own masterpieces, even when using just a few materials!
