Home is where the heart is! Dr. Valli’s home is certainly an all heart conceptualization of everything close to her loved ones. Linear and massive are two words that jump right at you when you look at this home. A marvelous 14’ cantilevered slab levitating over two MS columns held captive in a resilient dance of height, light, and gravity acts as the focal point.

The site is located in Vijayawada, AP. The three-storied houses are planned on the east-facing road and the building is positioned on the site as per the regulatory bylaws. Spatially, the house is organized along a central linear circulation spine. Based on the client’s brief, following the bylaws, a generic building block has arrived.
The design evolution is based on the removal of solid masses from the primary block thus creating interesting vistas. What you see and get is also a set of four setback spaces for flourishing flora and fauna. It also doubles up as spaces for hosting quality times, which the family clearly loves.
At the entrance, you are greeted with massive natural rock and wood landscape elements and an interesting devotional mural, crafted on a natural granite stone with a travertine marble wall. Keeping in with the love for all things traditional, natural materials palette steel gray and gray mahogany adorn the flooring pattern in the pathway of the entrance.
Foyer! Well, that’s a sight to behold! A double-height landscape zone as a backdrop glows with natural light play at work. A stone carved apsara statue warmly welcomes you into the house and leads you to the drawing-room.
Drawing room boasts of tactile materials used on the floor & walls. Art takes the center stage in this neo-classical influenced space which connects you to the central circulation spine taking you to the lift lobby, dining, guest bed, staircase, and living.
The Dining Area plays to the light, giving a cheery ambiance to meal times. The wall gives way to a space divider which graciously acts as the backdrop for the crockery. Dining space exudes spaciousness and privacy. Overlooking a double-height landscaped courtyard, the design lets natural light hog the limelight literally, with the glass openings for the dining and lounge area above. The pièce de résistance in this design episode is the irregular natural stone-clad that defines sublime.
The Master bedroom is designed in neutral and natural tones keeping the personality of the client in mind. Furniture, artwork, wooden flooring in a herringbone pattern, and Venetian plaster all tie in to keep the hues warm.
Master walk-in with Central Island and mirrored sliding doors is an all-white affair, keeping it classy and timeless.
The family lounge which is in between the master and child bedroom overlooking the double-height courtyard below doubles up as a reading room for the avid readers of the family.
We see a burst of energy when we saunter into the child bedroom with a safari theme, all complete with an internal staircase connecting the study on the next floor. The color pop at play in the study room brings in a much-needed boost to the creative mind at work.
The masterstroke of the entire house, Puja room is innovatively sequenced in a double volume space with covered landscape on both sides. The treated reclaimed natural wood, onyx backlit walls, and the idols from the Tanjore art gallery all merge seamlessly into creating a space that is wonderfully both tranquil and vintage.
Dr. Valli’s family is big on people to connect. The Party Lounge and covered terrace team up and serve as a fun hangout for the family. They also serve as a perfect place for hosting intimate gatherings. Natural wood ceiling, fins, natural stone flooring, and metal art act in unity to create an awesome ambiance all while ensuring privacy for the party lounge. All in all, the architectural design of this home is a story of who the family is and a collection of what they love and cherish.
