The Sanctum House | Design Lab Vyoma

The basic look and feel of the house were that of a chic contemporary home, having a holistic & serene vibe, but at the same time having a feel of understated luxury & classiness

This residential space has elements that thrive in perfect elegance and bliss, creating a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere as the name suggests – The Sanctum House. The zonal planning of the space after great brainstorming sessions has to lead to an opening-planning house where the living, dining, and kitchen space of the house coexist together and compliment each other. Thus allows the family to reconnect with one another and spend quality time together creating priceless memories.

Talking about space zoning, one of the constraints of the apartment was that, it had window openings possible only on the shorter side of the house while the longer side could not have opening and remained as walled areas. Thus the space zoning of the functions was done such that each of the three rooms and the living area had huge ventilation windows.

Another interesting part about the space planning for this house was the fact that we have evolved the design working around the existing nature and structure of the home. Since the apartment is located in an old residential building, we faced great challenges as one came across old wooden piers to metal jacketed columns, to huge brick piers, to varied depth randomly placed beams running across, etc all comprising of the structural system of the building.

The challenge was that of amalgamating the existing numerous structures in our design in a seamless & flawless manner, yet maintaining the tranquility of the overall space. The internal wall alignment was created keeping the numerous freestanding columns & beams in mind, such that to align and flush the walls to its maximum with these existing unavoidable conditions on-site. The ceiling design also evolved; to a large extend, due to the existing beams, which ran in a random direction in all varying thickness & depth. The evolution of multiple cove designs in the ceiling arises due to the site condition, subtly highlighting each space in its functionality.

The basic look and feel of the house were that of a chic contemporary home, having a holistic & serene vibe, but at the same time having a feel of understated luxury & classiness. The spaces are intentionally designed to give you a warm and cozy feel with just the right amount of furniture and artifacts. Each and every space is crafted with great care and utilized to its maximum.

The living area, dining area & kitchen space seamlessly blend into each
other. Finer details like the brass edges on columns and false ceiling give the space a complete look and also adds drama and character to space. The
Armani brown Italian marble becomes the highlight of the TV unit, while the crisp beveled mirror on the opposite side, helps in opening up space
    visually.

Though we have created a luxurious yet soothing space with a balanced blend of aesthetics and design that optimizes the use of space, each room has its own unique style reflecting the personalities of the end-users.

The room for the elder couple has been subtly designed in monochromatic shades of beige, yet binding the overall space together with the micro-level details like the brass edging on the ceiling and the finely grained Italian marble flooring. Slight colour is added in this room through painting & cushions.

While on the other hand, the master bedroom for a young couple is
done up in deeper tones such as black. This not only creates a sense of intrigue & curiosity but also brings depth and a new dimension to space. The lighter coloured cappuccino walls and floor balances the aesthetics of the space.

A beautiful custom made light installation is seen as soon as one enters this room, taking away the attention from the free-standing column that was seen in the middle of the circulation space of the room. A niche like space is carved out, created in full black, which becomes the backdrop for this light installation.

Talking about the last room, which is the guest room, is done up in bold blue shades, playing with textures and prints on the soft furnishings and
curtains, giving its playful and fun vibe to the room. Also, we would proudly say that this project is completed in record-breaking time from scratch in around 120 days, including civil, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.
