  • DIY Quick Fix Home Repairs

Nagging problems around the household are the bane of every person’s existence. With professionals oftentimes charging a lot of money for simple repairs, you may want to try taking matters into your own hands. Even if your do-it-yourself skills are not as grand as you’d like them to be, you can still do a number of repairs around the home yourself.

Don’t be afraid to give the following quick fixes around the house a try! You might be surprised at how effective some of these hacks can be.

    Toilet Repairs

Toilets that constantly run are annoying, and there are a couple of reasons why it happens. Always check to make sure the toilet chain isn’t disconnected. If the chain has been, you simply have to reconnect it or attach a paper clip to ensure it doesn’t come off again.

    Unclogging Drains

Ahead of calling a plumbing to assist with clogged drains, you can try the following: grab some regular table salt and some distilled white vinegar. Pour the salt down the drain first then add equal parts white vinegar. When acid hits a base, it will cause a non-toxic chemical reaction, such as foaming. The foam can help dissolve whatever is congesting your drain.

    Squeaky Floorboards

Squealing floorboards can be exasperating, especially in high traffic areas. Fortunately, you can reduce the sound by using either baby powder (talcum powder) or graphite. Simply spread the powder around the cracks between the floorboards then wipe the surface clean.

    Scratched Surfaces

Does your floor or countertop have scratches in it that you don’t want to see anymore? Before you end up spending thousands to get scratches removed, try using some regular toothpaste. A pea-sized amount of paste (not gel) can help buff out the scratch when rubbed in a circular motion. Clean the area with a damp towel afterwards.

    Cleaner HVAC Registers

Does the thought of cleaning those grungy HVAC vent registers give you the chills? Don’t worry. You can easily clean them with a rinse in the dishwasher. The grime will come right off during a quick rinse, and you won’t have to worry about dealing with any of the mess. Just be sure to dry off the registers before reinstalling them.

DIY home repairs and improvements can be quick and easy when you know what to use. And as you can see, repairs don’t have to cost you much either, because most of the items you need are already available in your home.
