Envisioned as a contemporary home rooted in Indian sensibilities, this residence sits on a south-facing urban plot. The design accommodates the evolving lifestyle of a multi-generational family.

South Facing Home Adapts Indian Design To An Evolving Family | GreyHatch Architects

    Connected Floor Planning

The residence unfolds vertically across three levels. A centrally located staircase and lift connect each floor and ensure effortless circulation and universal accessibility. Rather than treating each floor as an isolated entity, the planning creates a cohesive spatial experience. Each level serves a distinct purpose while contributing to the overall character of the home.

    Ground Floor Hospitality

The ground floor serves as the most accessible level, supporting everyday functionality and hospitality. It accommodates a self-contained 1BHK unit that offers independence and flexibility for elderly family members. A dedicated parent’s bedroom ensures comfort and convenience while maintaining privacy. A well-appointed guest bedroom also welcomes visitors with ease.

A formal drawing room serves as the first point of interaction for guests. It allows social gatherings to remain separate from the family’s private living spaces.

    Climate Responsive Courtyard

The first floor forms the heart of the residence and houses the primary 3BHK family home. At its core, an open-to-sky courtyard becomes the soul of the house. More than a visual feature, the courtyard moderates the climate by bringing in abundant natural light and encouraging cross ventilation. It also creates a constant dialogue between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

    Shared Courtyard Living

It becomes a shared family space that nurtures everyday interactions while bringing moments of calm and openness into the dense urban context. The design organizes the surrounding living, dining, and private spaces to balance collective family life with individual privacy.

    Recreation And Wellness

The second floor transitions into a space dedicated to recreation and wellness. An entertainment room provides a versatile setting for family gatherings, celebrations, and leisure activities, while the adjoining Jacuzzi contained washroom and terrace creates a private retreat that encourages relaxation amidst the urban landscape. This level extends the experience of the home beyond its functional requirements, transforming it into a sanctuary where everyday living is complemented by spaces for rejuvenation.

    Grey And Terracotta

Architecturally, the residence reflects a modern Indian aesthetic that is understated yet expressive. The exterior composition is defined by a restrained palette of textured greys contrasted with the warmth of terracotta, creating a timeless façade that responds elegantly to its surroundings. Terracotta elements introduce a sense of familiarity and craftsmanship, while the grey surfaces lend a contemporary character, resulting in a balanced architectural language that feels both rooted and refined.

    Earthy Interior Palette

The interior design continues this narrative through a calming neutral palette enriched with carefully curated terracotta accents. Soft earthy tones, natural textures, and tactile materials establish a warm and inviting ambience throughout the home. Rather than relying on ornamentation, the interiors celebrate simplicity, material authenticity, and abundant natural light. Every space has been designed to evoke comfort while maintaining visual continuity across the residence.

    Timeless Contemporary Home

The result is a home that goes beyond fulfilling functional requirements. It is a carefully crafted living environment where architecture, interiors, climate, and lifestyle come together to create a timeless contemporary residence—one that celebrates family, embraces Indian values, and offers spaces that evolve gracefully with time.
