In the rapidly developing town of Kadi, Gujarat, where professional office environments often follow conventional patterns, StepEdge Architects was commissioned to create a legal workspace that would redefine expectations. The client, a well-established advocate, approached us after visiting one of our previously completed projects—a dermatologist clinic in Kadi. The experience left a lasting impression. His brief was straightforward yet ambitious: “I want an advocate office that stands apart from anything built in Mehsana district.”
Beyond aesthetics, the advocate office needed to support the realities of a busy legal practice. Every day, clients from Kadi and the surrounding villages visit the office seeking legal consultation. The challenge was to create a highly refined and sophisticated advocate office while ensuring durability, privacy, functionality, and long-term usability. The result is a meticulously crafted office. It balances hospitality with professionalism, creating an atmosphere where both the advocate and his visitors feel comfortable, respected, and inspired.
An Advocate Office In Kadi Is A Highly Refined & Sophisticated Design | StepEdge ArchitectsStepEdge Architects
Legal offices are often perceived as formal, rigid, and intimidating spaces. Our design approach sought to challenge this notion.Rather than creating a traditional corporate environment, we envisioned a space that feels warm, welcoming, and deeply personal while maintaining the authority expected of a legal practice.
The architects rooted the design language in soft luxury—an interplay of rich textures, earthy tones, handcrafted details, and carefully controlled lighting. Every element was thoughtfully curated to create a sense of calm confidence rather than visual excess. The office unfolds through a sequence of experiences, each offering varying degrees of openness and privacy while maintaining visual continuity throughout the space.
One of the defining aspects of the project is its extraordinary level of detailing. Instead of relying on ready-made decorative elements, we chose to design and develop many of the wall installations, art pieces, and architectural details specifically for this project. The architects approached every corner as a design opportunity.
The architects carefully designed custom wall treatments, handcrafted textures, integrated niches, curated decorative compositions, and bespoke artefacts to create layers of visual interest throughout the office. The objective was not merely decoration but the creation of a coherent architectural identity. This attention to detail transforms the office into a crafted environment rather than a furnished one. The project reflects our belief that true luxury lies in precision, proportion, and thoughtful execution.
Material selection played a critical role in shaping the emotional experience of the space. They introduced natural-toned wooden flooring throughout the office to bring warmth and human scale to an otherwise professional setting. The flooring softens the environment and creates a sense of continuity between different functional zones. To further enhance this warmth, the architects treated the ceiling in a rich, earthy tone, an unconventional choice for a legal office. This approach visually lowers the perceived scale of the space, making it feel more intimate and energetic while adding depth and character. Together, the flooring and ceiling create a strong architectural framework that envelops occupants in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
Privacy was one of the client’s foremost requirements, particularly within the office’s common client interaction area, where multiple visitors often wait, meet, and engage in preliminary discussions throughout the day. Rather than creating a completely open waiting environment or enclosing every function, our approach focused on achieving privacy without isolation within this shared zone. Carefully choreographed visual screening, layered partitions, and strategic zoning create subtle separations between seating and circulation areas while preserving a sense of openness and spatial continuity.
These semi-open elements allow visitors to experience a comfortable and welcoming environment without feeling exposed, while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for daily interactions. This design strategy is intentionally limited to the common area. Dedicated consultation rooms and private workspaces remain fully enclosed to ensure complete confidentiality for sensitive legal discussions. The result is a workspace that balances openness where appropriate with absolute privacy where it matters most.
Among the project’s most distinctive design interventions is a custom rotating television panel. Rather than dedicating a screen to a single area, the architects developed a rotating feature that allows the television to be viewed from two separate spaces. This multifunctional solution optimizes usability while reducing visual clutter. They treated the reverse side of the panel as a sculptural element. A custom-designed abstract composition seamlessly integrates with the surrounding architecture, ensuring that the feature remains aesthetically engaging from every angle. This intervention embodies our design philosophy—where utility and artistry coexist without compromise.
The office serves a diverse clientele, including visitors from neighbouring towns and villages. This results in constant movement and heavy daily usage. The challenge was to maintain a premium aesthetic while ensuring long-term durability. The architects carefully selected materials based on their ability to withstand wear without losing visual appeal. They detailed the finishes to age gracefully and organised circulation paths to accommodate large numbers of visitors without disrupting the work environment. Every design decision was evaluated through the dual lens of beauty and practicality.
Natural light plays a significant role throughout the office. Large openings filtered through blinds create dynamic patterns of light and shadow across walls, furniture, and flooring. These shifting compositions bring movement into the interiors and enrich the experience of the workspace throughout the day. Layered artificial lighting further enhances spatial depth, highlighting textures, emphasizing architectural details, and creating intimate pockets within the office. The resulting atmosphere is calm, sophisticated, and distinctly contemporary.
For us, architecture is not simply about creating beautiful spaces—it is about creating environments that respond to human behavior, aspirations, and daily rituals. This advocate’s office presented an opportunity to elevate a professional workspace into something more meaningful: a place where legal practice, craftsmanship, hospitality, and design excellence coexist. Every surface, junction, texture, and artifact was thoughtfully designed and executed to create a workspace that reflects the client’s ambition while embodying our commitment to detail-driven design. The project stands as a testament to the power of carefully considered interiors—spaces that are not only visually compelling but deeply experiential.
