The Verandah Manor is a 2,200 sq.ft. Indo-Dutch bungalow on a quiet half-acre in Kottayam. It is envisioned as a heartfelt return to the owner’s roots. The design draws from Kerala’s landscapes and old colonial homes. Dutch-inspired architectural elements blend with the warmth of traditional Kerala craftsmanship.

The Verandah Manor: A Kottayam Bungalow Built Around the Charm of the Verandah | Aetrio Design Studio

Editor’s Note: Some homes hold memories long before they become homes. The Verandah Manor brings this feeling to life in a quiet Kottayam setting, drawing from Kerala’s landscapes and the charm of old colonial bungalows. Arched verandahs, French doors, carved details, patterned floors, and warm brass lighting create an atmosphere that feels familiar and timeless. Restored teak, rosewood, and padauk furniture add another layer of history, allowing cherished pieces to become part of everyday life once again. More than a holiday home, the residence becomes a gentle connection to the past, where heritage, craftsmanship, and personal memories come together. ~ Yashika Bajaniya

Arched verandahs, ebony-framed French doors, carved cornices and a soft, monsoon-washed palette set the tone for a home that feels timeless rather than new.

The sit-out — one of the home’s most cherished spaces — reflects this emotional character. Vintage teak, rosewood and padauk furniture pieces have been restored and revived, allowing each chair, console and spindle detail to narrate its own story. These pieces are not merely décor; they are heirloom expressions of memory and craftsmanship.

Floors shift through patterned tiles and black-and-white checks, while warm brass lights create an ambience reminiscent of Kerala evenings after rain.

More than a holiday home, The Verandah Manor is a deeply personal homage — a place where heritage, emotion and design meet in quiet harmony.
