In a city where history gracefully intertwines with modern life, a 4-bedroom, three-storey residence with a geometric design stands as a seamless dialogue between contemporary architecture and the enduring soul of Indian heritage. This home is not just a structure it is a living narrative, echoing with memories, reflections on life, art, and history that the client has lovingly carried over time.
Dhyey Chag Architects
The home’s facade presents a quite clean, geometric design rendered in concrete which speaks of modern minimalism. Yet, as one steps closer, the story shifts. A traditional Indian jhula, carved wooden bench, Kota stone flooring adorns the entrance, softening the stark geometry and inviting a slower, more thoughtful rhythm. This deliberate juxtaposition mirrors the essence of the homeowners, rooted in culture, yet expressive of contemporary elegance.
Steeped in tradition and layered with meaning, the interiors celebrate India’s cultural richness through curated elements and geometric design inspired by pol houses, jharokhas, and fine craftsmanship. An earthy material palette, softly lit spaces, and clear spatial planning give rise to an aesthetic that feels quintessentially modern Indian, marked by intricate wooden details, patterned floors, and cherished heirlooms.
The crafted wooden main door, set against patterned Kota stone flooring, marks a distinct transition from the open exterior to the intimate interior. The entry foyer sets the tone, featuring an inlayed console, crowned with a Pichwai artwork in the centre that welcomes and grounds the space.
The formal living room serves as a graceful introduction to the home, anchored by a beautifully carved jharokha frame as a back drop, which overlooks the lush garden.
This space flows seamlessly into the informal entertaining area on the opposite side and gently transitions into the open central foyer, staircase, pooja room, and family dining zone.
The common spaces are vibrant and inviting, layered with materials and a geometric design that speak of memory and craftsmanship. Kota stone flooring with Jaisalmer stone inlays runs throughout, creating visual ‘rugs’ underfoot, organically defining areas without physical partitions.
Lift doors are framed with antique wooden portals reclaimed from old homes, while bespoke brass knockers, carved jharokhas, and detailed door panels evoke the spirit of Indian heritage.
Adorned in marble with a serene mother-of-pearl backdrop, the pooja room is a quiet haven of light and devotion. Always in view, the courtyard accommodating the Tulsi Kiyara offers a moment of pause. It brings in natural light within the bustle of everyday life. On the first floor, a sit-out with a jharokha overlook the courtyard. It allows light to softly wash the sit out space.
The architecture facilitates a graceful flow between communal and private areas. Bedrooms are discreetly placed toward the rear or upper levels. They are connected by a wrap-around sit-out accessible from the master suite, daughter’s bedroom, and family lounge.
The bedrooms serve as deeply personal sanctuaries. Here, the language of design shifts from collective memory to individual taste. It is rich with textures, wood grains, layered fabrics, and handcrafted details.
The guest bedroom features Jaisalmer Kota stone flooring. It is reflected in the bed-back, set against a soft grey-blue lime plastered wall for a grounded yet elegant look.
A regal space with corner windows, a study nook, and built-in bench, layered with handwoven textiles, rattan accents, and rich teakwood elements. A palette of layered colours and textures tells a quiet, dignified story of refined taste.
A four-poster bed backed by a warm ochre wall creates a bright, clean canvas for detailed wood accents and traditional layers.
Daughter’s Room is contemporary yet rooted. The green lime-plastered walls and herringbone wooden floor blend boldness with subtlety in a calm, thoughtful palette.
Each bedroom opens onto a balcony or garden-facing view, echoing for peaceful retreats. Bold colours, elegant beds, soft light, and heavy fabrics lend warmth and intimacy to these restful spaces. Walls and wardrobe shutters act as canvases. They are customised with layered textures and hand-finished treatments that reflect the design ethos throughout the home.
This residence is a fluid conversation between the charm of the old and the clarity of the new. The layered interiors, carefully selected artwork, and heritage elements, many sourced from the artisans of Gujarat, come together in a soulful narrative.
It is a home that breathes with Bharat textures, colours, and craftsmanship while embracing the grace of modern design. More than just a place to live, it is a place to remember, connect, and pass down.
