Design often begins with a question. The answer sometimes arrives in the form of a single line, a curve or a moment that quietly transforms a house into a home. When the architects at Studio Tattva first entered the existing structure, they found a ground floor with two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The house felt functional but incomplete. The family of four who lived here radiated warmth in the house, but needed a renovated house that could echo their true spirit. The idea was not to expand the floor area, but to craft something everlasting that spoke their language. In that search, the staircase became a gesture that tied together their memories, movement and meaning, shaping what would become the “Reframe House”.

The material palette remains grounded through the use of exposed bricks, textured paint, warm wood, and soft curves that shape the volumes. Brick is used for its honesty, tactile appeal, and the way it ages gracefully, gathering warmth and stories over time.
Other materials, such as PU paint, clean laminates, and raw textures, maintain a timeless tone, allowing the spaces to breathe. Kota stone flooring defines the outdoor foyer, while earthy tiles inside recreate its depth. The continuity among the material palette keeps the home rooted in an understated elegance.
Colors respond to the personality of the family. The living room creates a calm aesthetic by blending warm wood tones with soft neutrals. The textured wall panels and metal shelves introduce depth and freshness to the space.
The kitchen is intentionally kept minimal, preserving the visual focus on the sculptural brick wall along the staircase.
The bedroom features soft tints of blue and green, allowing natural light to settle gently across the space. The blue shelves within the built-in study corner add functional emphasis. While in the other bedroom, a playful palette is expressed through the curved headboard and a rounded mirror.
On the first floor of the renovated house, the bedrooms are strategically placed to maintain a continuous relationship with the outdoors. An informal living space sits between them, serving as a calm transitional zone that opens onto the balcony.
Large north-facing windows catch the soft daylight throughout the day. Every space is aligned with prevailing wind directions, ensuring a sense of effortless openness. The informal living spills onto a serene balcony, where a swing placed on the north side captures gentle light. The space creates a favorite family nook for slowing down and sharing happy moments.
Here, the staircase is no longer a structural connector but becomes the spine of the home. It anchors the memory of the old structure while opening new possibilities with space, light, and movement.
Reflecting on the transformation, the client shares, “Life used to be peaceful and simple in the earlier space. But now peace has risen to another level, layered with warmth, openness and belonging.”
The Reframe House serves as an exemplary case of how architecture can redefine spatial boundaries. By centering the design around the staircase, the renovated house binds the past to its present. The project evolves beautifully when design ties together context, climate, and the people who inhabit it.
Here, movement becomes memory, light becomes comfort, and the staircase becomes the heart of the home. The space enriches life with everyday moments to unfold and grow with each passing year.
