Obsidian Edit is an exploration of restraint where the absence of excess becomes the foundation of expression. Elysian Design Studio designed the home with a deliberate rejection of wooden finishes, instead embracing a bold monochromatic palette of black and white.
From the outset, the space establishes a strong visual language graphic, precise, and unapologetically minimal. Yet, within this discipline lies a quiet complexity. The design moves beyond colour, relying on form, proportion, and materiality to create depth.

At the entrance, a sharply defined black border reframes the threshold, transforming a functional element into an architectural statement. It sets the tone for what unfolds within—a series of spaces that feel continuous yet composed.
The living room introduces a moment of contrast in the monochromatic palette. A sculptural mirror in a fluid, wavy form disrupts the linear order of the space. It reflects, distorts, and softens—bringing movement into an otherwise structured environment. This interplay between rigidity and fluidity becomes a recurring theme throughout the home.
The designers introduced a muted rust accent with restraint to counterbalance the starkness of black and white. Rather than dominating the palette, it punctuates it—adding warmth and a quiet depth that evolves through the day with light.
The designers do not select the furniture in the home; they design it. Each piece is custom-made, responding directly to the spatial language. This approach ensures continuity—where every element feels like an extension of the architecture rather than an addition to it.
The designers treat materials with the same sensitivity. They subtly layer laminates, painted surfaces, glass, and metal to create variations in texture and reflection. The detailing remains precise, almost understated, allowing the composition to speak without interruption.
Obsidian Edit is ultimately a study in balance. It is a space where boldness is softened by nuance, and minimalism is enriched through intention. In limiting the palette and materials, the design finds its clarity resulting in a home that feels both composed and quietly expressive.
To address this, the design approach focused on creating a sense of openness and visual expansion. The false ceiling was carefully treated to enhance the perceived height kept minimal, with clean lines and strategic detailing to avoid any visual heaviness.
Spatial planning played a crucial role in making the home feel larger and more fluid. The layout was designed to reduce visual clutter and maintain continuity across spaces, allowing the interiors to feel open and connected.
Additionally, the use of a monochromatic palette, reflective surfaces, and well-balanced proportions further contributed to amplifying the sense of scale, making the apartment feel more spacious than its actual footprint.
We worked extensively with proportions balancing volumes, heights, and elements to create a visual illusion of a larger, more open space.
