From the outset, the client envisioned more than a retreat; they sought a lifestyle experience – one that embodies the slow pace of resort living while retaining the warmth and intimacy of a private dwelling.
This vision guided every design decision, from spatial planning to the material palette, resulting in a retreat that breathes, flows, and connects.
The farmhouse retreat adopts a contemporary modern design vocabulary defined by clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and an innate respect for scale and proportion.
The architecture prioritizes openness and fluidity, dissolving boundaries between the indoors and the outdoors through expansive glazing and unobstructed visual corridors.
At its heart lies a double-height living area, a voluminous space that anchors the residence both spatially and emotionally. Here, the indoors merge effortlessly with the garden and pool deck, creating a cinematic frame for daily life.
The visual axis leads the eye outward, blurring distinctions between architecture and landscape, and transforming every moment into an experience of connection.
The living, dining, and outdoor zones transition seamlessly into one another, forming a spatial continuum designed for hosting, lounging, and unwinding.
Full-height glass panels invite the landscape inside, while furniture arrangements subtly define boundaries without compromising the sense of openness.
This deliberate spatial choreography ensures that the house never feels confined, no matter where one stands. The result is a home that’s light-filled, breathable, and deeply attuned to its setting.
Material selection plays a pivotal role in grounding the home’s aesthetic. The palette is timeless – stone flooring, natural wood accents, and neutral-toned walls create an earthy yet refined foundation. These are complemented by brass lighting details, beige leather upholstery, and warm-toned rugs, all chosen to lend softness and texture to the expanses.
The stone-clad feature walls introduce a tactile contrast to the sleek glass surfaces, anchoring the architecture to its natural context. Each material interacts subtly with light – the roughness of stone, the sheen of brass, and the warmth of wood coming together in quiet harmony.
Light itself becomes a design element. Daylight pours in generously through the glazing, animating surfaces throughout the day, while carefully placed ambient lighting transforms the atmosphere come evening. The interior palette remains intentionally muted, allowing the greens of the garden and the blues of the pool to dominate the visual experience.
A key challenge during design development was maintaining warmth and intimacy within the generous scale of the interiors. Large volumes risk feeling impersonal; to counter this, the design integrates layered textures, soft furnishings, and strategic lighting. The interplay of materials and spatial hierarchy ensures that even the grandest space feels welcoming and lived-in.
Another consideration was the management of natural light balancing openness with comfort. The architects resolved this through controlled fenestration and subtle shading devices that allow ample illumination without glare, ensuring the interiors remain luminous yet composed.
The farmhouse is more than a collection of spaces, it is a dialogue between architecture, nature, and human experience. Each space invites a different mood: the double-height living area evokes awe, the bedrooms exude calm, and the deck inspires pause and reflection. Together, they form a cohesive narrative of luxury that feels effortless and grounded.
What sets this project apart is not just its aesthetic restraint, but its emotional intelligence. It is designed for life, for moments of solitude, family gatherings, and celebrations alike. The architecture adapts, breathes, and resonates with the rhythm of those who inhabit it.
