  • With Pastel Palette, This Project Embodies Timeless Charm | Shape My Space

This project embodies a minimalistic design philosophy, simple, timeless, and highly personalised with a pastel palette. It was conceptualised for a family of four and their beloved Labrador, with a clear brief: create a calming, breathable home that reflects individual personalities, functions effortlessly, and remains within a fixed budget. The palette is rooted in light and pastel shades, enhancing the openness and warmth of the spaces. The design avoids heavy ornamentation, relying instead on thoughtful detailing like arches, grooves, and subtle wall mouldings to bring in character.

Natural materials such as wood and cane are used selectively to introduce tactile warmth and a sense of earthiness. The layout planning was sensitive to daily family dynamics, maximizing light, circulation, and usability. Special emphasis was placed on pet-friendly materials and finishes, ensuring that the family’s Labrador could coexist comfortably with the interior elements.

The style can best be described as “Minimal with Classical Touches”, influenced by European elegance in elements like the French-style crockery cabinet, classic colour tones in the kitchen, and arched architectural accents. Every decision, from layout to lighting, was made with the intent to create a visually light yet emotionally rich home that accommodates both everyday living and occasional social gatherings.

    Living Space

The living room is designed to be the heart of the home, an airy, breathable space with plenty of natural light, soothing tones, and layered comfort. Since the client’s father is fond of karaoke and regularly hosts friends, ample seating was a non-negotiable requirement. They planned the layout carefully to maximise the number of seats without compromising circulation or visual clarity. A large neutral-toned L-shaped sofa anchors the space, complemented by light, movable accent chairs.

To keep costs within the defined budget, we chose to avoid full wall panelling and instead enhanced the walls using running grooves and embossed moulding borders, painted in the same wall colour to create depth and detail without adding bulk.

    Arched Openings

Arched openings, leading toward the dining and bedroom passages, add fluidity and soften the transitions. The furnishing palette features pet-friendly, durable upholstery, ensuring practicality without sacrificing style. This room perfectly balances social needs, aesthetic minimalism, and daily comfort.

    Dining Area

The dining area, though modest in size, was designed to feel connected and intimate. It features a simple wooden dining table with chairs upholstered in neutral cushions, echoing the minimal design language of the rest of the home. Right next to it, we created a family photo wall in the connecting passage, serving as a heartfelt feature that adds soul to the home. This area connects the common living space to the private bedrooms and pooja room, making the photo wall a natural pause point filled with cherished memories.

    Kitchen

The kitchen, visually connected to the dining area, was designed in a classical style with contemporary functionality. The soft light grey cabinetry provides a neutral base, while the bolder olive green subway tile backsplash adds charm without overpowering the aesthetic.

The design ensures ample storage through tall units and drawers, while a French-style crockery cabinet on a side wall stores and displays delicate serveware. This piece acts as a stylistic bridge between the classical kitchen and the minimal dining area. The overall layout encourages seamless interaction between cooking and dining, which was important to the family.

    Pooja Room & Passage

The design integrates the compact pooja room near the passage leading to the bedrooms. Kept minimal with white and wooden finishes, the design creates a quiet, spiritual presence without feeling overdesigned. Lighting plays a crucial role here, highlighting the sanctity of the space.

The connecting passage not only leads to the private zones but serves as a gallery wall, holding beautifully framed photographs of the family. This thoughtful touch brings warmth, emotion, and a narrative element into the interior, reinforcing the feeling of home.

    Parent’s Bedroom

The parents’ room is a calm and composed retreat designed in soft pastel green tones, bringing in a tranquil atmosphere.

The use of natural cane and wood lends a touch of nostalgic elegance, giving the space a classic retro vibe. Minimal furniture, soft lighting, and subtle decor ensure the space remains uncluttered while being visually warm.

The designer carefully chose the textures and tones in this room to promote restfulness, supporting the client’s vision for a serene, timeless space.

    Elder Daughter’s Bedroom

This room captures a young, expressive personality while staying rooted in the overall minimalist design approach.

Open wall-mounted shelves allow her to display books, plants, framed art, and quirky collectibles, making it feel curated and personal.

A pastel-toned wall forms a soft backdrop, while warm wood finishes and white furniture maintain brightness and simplicity.

The design makes the space feel Pinterest-worthy without overstyling or theming it, achieving a delicate balance between creativity and calm.

    Younger Daughter’s Bedroom

The younger daughter’s room shares a similar layout but with slightly more playful accents. A cork pinboard wall, custom shelving, and layered textiles make the space feel cozy and engaging. Again, open display shelving plays a major role in personalizing the room, giving her the freedom to style the space as she grows. The design allows flexibility for future use while meeting her current needs with functionality and charm.

Each bedroom has been individually conceptualized to suit its occupant, while staying cohesive with the overall palette and design ethos.

    Pet Considerations

The client’s Labrador was a central consideration throughout the design process. The designers selected every furnishing, from durable upholstery to scratch-resistant flooring and easy-to-clean materials, to accommodate the dog’s presence. The designers kept rugs and furniture low-maintenance yet stylish, proving that pet-friendly design can still be elegant.
