Ekam, a celebration of Indian traditional elements and modern day aesthetics, is an 1800 sq ft, three bedroom house design in Hyderabad, that perfectly caters to the Indian contemporary style. The home features three bedrooms and is based on the client’s vision for a generational space for a family of seven—embracing traditional Indian elements while also integrating the functional and sophisticated needs of modern living, by taking inspiration from Indian materials and recreating them in a modern framework to achieve a space that feels timeless, yet relevant. Every space is designed to be versatile, adapting to different needs throughout the day. From multi-functional areas that transition effortlessly between work, leisure, and gatherings, to handcrafted details that celebrate traditional artistry, the home balances functionality with cultural richness.

Living Room

The living room comes alive with the warmth of wooden wall panelling and moulding that defines the artwork, and a refreshing layer of lush green lime plaster on the sofa back wall. The wooden moulding extends throughout the walls and ceilings of the entire home creating a cohesive sense of rhythm and continuity.

As we move across the space, the study unit subtly reveals itself, which is a compact yet efficiently designed space, with a green spider marble tabletop flowing from the study room to the outside giving structure to the crockery unit.

A freestanding Puja unit with rounded corners, positioned at the core of the house, becomes a striking focal point, clad in deep green marble with pops of vibrant yellow, it features jali-inspired perforations for both ventilation and visual interest.

Dining and Kitchen

A monolithic green marble breakfast counter integrated with a rotatable wooden dining table is positioned between the semi open kitchen and the family room allowing for a smooth transition between everyday meals and social gatherings–merging functionality and thoughtful spatial design.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom design is a perfect integration of modern and traditional design. A carefully restored ancestral bed with intricate carvings and warm wood tones graces the master bedroom. Its headboard, upholstered in jute fabric featuring subtle Indian motifs, adds a grounded, earthy touch.

The curved wooden window-seating seamlessly connects the wardrobe and TV unit, enhancing both flow and functionality.

Sons’ Bedroom

The sons’ bedroom features a murphy bed integrated into the design that creates ample space for play when tucked away. Both the sons’ and grandparents’ bedrooms reflect their individual aesthetic preferences. At the same time, they align with the unified design language of Ekam.

This house is a thoughtful convergence of the old and the new. Every design decision reflects a deep respect for tradition while embracing the evolving needs of contemporary life. With its layered material palette and multifunctional spaces, the home becomes a warm retreat. Personal touches throughout transform it into a timeless sanctuary for the three generations. The result is a design that nurtures connection, honors legacy, and gracefully adapts to the rhythms of everyday living.
