  • The Charm of This Home Lies In Its Bold Yet Balanced Eclectic Minimalist Interior Design | Pramāna Design

Ar. Darshit Tejani and Ar. Bhakti Tejani of Pramāna Design have designed this 1700 sqft home in Vile Parle, Mumbai, for a family of four who wanted their home to be a physical extension of their personalities through an eclectic minimalist interior design. The most exciting part of the brief was that no two rooms should be the same, yet the entire home should have elements tying the spaces together.

With this challenge in mind, the designers crafted each space to reflect the user’s persona both individually and collectively. They assigned a pop of colour to every room to highlight the character of its user, while a common neutral shade runs through the entire home to unify the spaces into one cohesive experience.

The Charm of This Home Lies In Its Bold Yet Balanced Eclectic Minimalist Interior Design | Pramāna Design

    Living Room

As one enters the home, they are greeted by the custom white rose mural on the wall in the background and the circular dining table at the front, with a glimpse of the living room in the back.

The doors to all the rooms are hidden in the grey panelling which envelopes the space. The micro-concrete flooring, wall panelling, and walls are done in different tones of grey to serve as the perfect backdrop for the curved sofas and circular centre table.

In an ocean of greys and whites, the rotating swing – Fireball, is the ship which breaks the monochrome to add a red tone to the space. The white ceiling is undulating to house direct and indirect lights and conceal structural members.

    Master Bedroom

The Master bedroom is the biggest among all the bedrooms. To highlight this scale and celebrate it, the boat shaped king size bed has been kept in the centre of the room. Behind the bed towards the window there are two swivel chairs and a small table to create the perfect nook for unwinding over mesmerizing views of the Pawan Hans Airstrip with the Arabian Sea in the backdrop.

The most striking feature in the room is the bookshelf, carved out of the wall to function as a hidden door between the bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe. The ceiling curves in a cloud-like form near the entrance, creating a niche for indirect light.

As one enters the walk-in wardrobe, the first thing they see is the ceiling. The clients’ mother used to embroider small patches of fabric which she wanted to incorporate as a memory in the home.

Hence, the design transforms these patches into a ceiling fresco, drawing inspiration from the Renaissance-era cathedrals. To elevate the focus towards the ceiling, the wardrobes and study are in a neutral tone. The mirrors on either sides of the bathroom door reflect the ceiling to reveal details of the embroidery work.

    Son’s Bedroom

Upon entering the son’s bedroom, one passes through a passage designed as a portal with indigo-stained walls and ceiling. The wardrobe on one side almost teleports the visitor into his world.

Two different shades of Indigo (light and dark) resonate with his vibe, combined with teak wood to bring out warmth and create a pleasing play of colors.

A square pattern resembling the galaxy lights up the wall above the headboard. This design extends seamlessly from the pattern on the wardrobe in the passage. The wardrobes and console have custom teakwood knobs made on site.

    Grandfather’s Bedroom

To capture the essence of his bright, warm, and cheerful personality, the selection includes birch and Baroda green marble. As a result, the space feels both warm and comforting.

The bed, side tables, and wardrobe feature birch ply construction with elaborate inlay patterns in green marble and quartz. The bed headboard and curtains features fabric from Kalakaari Haath.
