The goal was to make the 655 sq. ft. cozy apartment feel more spacious and open without altering its structure. This was achieved through the use of neutral tones, clean lines, and a monotone colour palette to create visual continuity. Strategic space planning allowed us to integrate ample storage seamlessly, meeting the client’s needs while maintaining an airy and uncluttered design.
The apartment entrance features a thoughtfully designed foyer with a custom shoe rack integrated into a niche in the entry wall. Finished in elegant grey tones, the shoe rack is complemented by an additional wooden-tone niche, perfect for quick access to essentials like house keys, décor, and books. The unit’s shutters feature a seamless V-Groove handle design, creating a cohesive and modern look. With the capacity to hold up to 20 pairs of shoes and dedicated space for a generator to ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity, the design blends functionality with style.
Editor’s Note: “In this apartment, each space serves as an invitation to belong and feel like home. Light filters through soft textures, storage disappears into design, and every corner is a testament to harmony and a reminder to live with ease. This home is thus not just designed but composed, soft, intentional, and open.” ~ Anusha Sridhar
This Cozy Apartment Feels Spacious and Open with Visual Connectivity | Sage Design & Co.
The living room, filled with natural light, is truly the heart of this home. The long wall stands out with its textured stucco paint and solid wood beading. Moreover, it adds character and uniqueness to the space. Grey tones in the furnishings create a cohesive and lightweight feel, accented by pops of colour and texture in the cushions and throw.
The focal point is a functional coffee table, designed with hidden storage and additional pouf seating—perfect for entertaining guests. Opposite this, a sleek TV unit sits alongside a bar finished in PU with fluted glass pocket doors. The bar, designed for both style and function, features tiled and brass interiors. This makes it as practical as it is aesthetic for mixing drinks and entertaining.
The kitchen was designed to double as a laundry space, balancing functionality with style. Essential appliances seamlessly blend into the design, while a green kit-kat tile backsplash adds a fresh, vibrant contrast to the warm wood tones. A quartz countertop at 36” height accommodates the washing machine, ensuring a practical yet elegant solution. To keep the space visually light, we incorporated open shelves and sleek storage near the entrance. A pivot breakfast counter creates a versatile dining area and additional prep space. However, it is perfect for hosting and maximizing the apartment’s utility.
The master bedroom was designed with a strong focus on maximizing storage while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. The layout features a floating fabric bed, complemented by concave-patterned wall paneling in a paint finish. Thus, adding subtle texture and depth. Additionally, modern pendant lights and solid wood side tables with brass-finish hardware completed the sophisticated look.
A functional vanity area with a tall storage unit now maximizes an unused builder-provided nook, ensuring optimal utilization of space. However, this thoughtful design blends functionality and style. Thus, creating a serene yet practical retreat.
Our client desired a significant upgrade from the builder-grade bathroom, which felt dingy and claustrophobic. We transformed the space using a monotone color palette enhanced by the subtle movement of terrazzo. Moreover, it creates a modern and airy feel. Clever storage solutions, such as niches and additional cabinetry above the WC, were integrated seamlessly.
To separate the wet and dry areas without closing off the space, we installed a 3-foot-wide glass partition, maintaining an open and spacious look. Antique gold fittings added a touch of elegance. This makes the bathroom not only functional but also a standout feature—our client’s absolute favorite!
