This Scandi Style House with Japanese Influences Embodies Simplicity and Luxury | Quirk Studio
The client’s initial requirement was to create a home that not only provided comfort but also instilled a sense of calm and Zen-like peace. Thus, warmth and serenity were central to the design philosophy of the space.
The designers approached the drawing table with the goal of translating these requirements into a space that felt expansive and intimate while leveraging natural materials and organic textures to craft a cohesive and inviting environment. The brilliance of the design is that the villa effortlessly blends in with the surrounding nature, adding a rustic charm to it.
The layout of the scandi style house transitions the theme fluidly between spaces, creating a sense of openness and continuity.
Each family member has their own space, and there are plenty of spaces for family gatherings, thanks to the thoughtful planning that balances private and communal areas. Every element of the house, from the expansive living room with its double-height ceiling to the intimate Zen mandir, is designed to provide comfort and tranquillity.
A charming foyer welcomes you into the house, featuring a stone-crafted Buddha statue and herringbone stone flooring.
Moreover, this sets the tone for the entire house, establishing a peaceful and rejuvenating mood. Additionally, the ground floor features a guest bedroom, a Zen-like mandir with herringbone wooden flooring, and a multi-functional study that doubles as a music room.
The living room has a stunning 20-foot double-height ceiling and glass façade windows. Additionally, it offers a breathtaking view of the green garden outside.
Sandstone flooring, wooden installations, and lime plaster walls contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere, while custom-made lighting and furniture pieces add a touch of sophistication.
The choice of organic materials not only enhances the picturesque appeal but also ensures that the house is in harmony with its green surroundings.
The glass façade seamlessly blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating an expansive feel.
The informal living room and dining area is accessible through fluted glass double doors. Furthermore, it extends into the garden, enhancing the connection with nature.
Art and textures are central to bringing the house’s design to life. As an artist herself, the client contributed several of her own pieces, which are displayed throughout the home, adding a personal and homely touch.
Additionally, the colors are carefully chosen to enhance the natural elements and textures present throughout the house. This adds depth and warmth to the spaces.
The kitchen is designed with playful yet functional black-and-white flooring. Featuring an island counter, it also opens up to an outdoor dining area. Thus, it makes it a versatile space for both cooking and socializing.
This thoughtful approach to colour ensures that each room within Kensho House is inviting, cohesive, and aesthetically pleasing, perfectly complementing the modern design language of the home.
The staircase leading upstairs exemplifies a seamless design. It transitions from the sandstone of the main floor to the wooden flooring upstairs. It is beautifully executed to blend the two materials harmoniously. Additionally, the upper floor houses the family lounge, master bedroom, and two sons’ bedrooms, each with its walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom, and balcony.
The color palette plays a crucial role in achieving the elegant atmosphere of the house. The use of neutral tones such as greys, whites, and blacks creates a foundation of tranquility and sophistication.
In the family lounge, the muted salmon pink provides a gentle contrast, infusing the area with a subtle vibrancy. Moreover, the family lounge serves as a central hub connecting all the private rooms on the upper floor.
The use of lime plaster and natural stone introduces texture and depth. Additionally, it creates a harmonious and visually appealing environment.
The materials were carefully selected to reflect a natural and minimalist design ethos.
Items like the concrete panel in the master bedroom and the distinctive black-and-white artwork in the study room reflect the client’s artistic sensibilities. Furthermore, it enhances the space’s minimalist aesthetic.
One of the primary structural challenges for Disha and Shivani was to integrate these natural elements seamlessly with the villa’s architectural framework. The use of natural materials and organic textures, combined with the client’s personal artwork. Additionally, it creates a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply personal.
The design team had to navigate the complexities of working with the materials by conducting a series of trials. This was done to achieve the perfect balance. Furthermore, it ensured that it looked aesthetically pleasing and functioned effectively within the home’s structure.
Innovative solutions included custom-made installations and carefully curated elements. Moreover, these brought the client’s vision to life while overcoming the inherent challenges of using organic materials.
Also, the master bedroom is marked by a concrete panel, and a stone veneer and paneling find their way into one son’s room, and paneling and PU grace the other son’s room.
Similarly, the blue and green accents in the teenage boys’ bedrooms bring a refreshing touch, adding personality without disrupting the overall harmony. The designers also played with the walls to uplift the mood and add more character to the bedrooms.
The immaculate flow of spaces and the meticulous attention to detail speak volumes about the expertise and vision behind the design.
Each element, from the natural materials to the innovative solutions, is thoughtfully curated, reflecting the client’s desire for a serene and elegant living environment. Meanwhile, there is wallpaper and clay paneling in the guest bedroom.
The final outcome of Kensho House is a perfect epitome of minimalistic luxury. It stands as a testament to how carefully considered design can transform a dream into reality, achieving a perfect balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal.
