Located in the small town of Nakodar, the Eternal house is situated on a 4700 sq.ft. (444 Sq.m) parcel of land. The house has been designed for a business family who spends ample time at home in the evenings.

After living in different locations in the country, the clients decided to build their permanent residence close to their family relations and native place, Nakodar. They wanted a building that would allow them to age in place. Architect’s design has blended indigenous local crafting techniques with modern space planning in this bespoke design.Other priorities included the vision of bringing back rich Indian heritage back into this modern era, low maintenance costs with user friendly equipment’s and privacy, along with generous vistas of the picturesque green areas left around the dwelling.

The traditional light features throughout the house were an important part of the design process and beauty to the façade. Architect’s eye for small details can be seen in the round pahwas, classical jaali & railing detailing which are important part of traditional Indian Architecture and not seen much around the houses these days.

“One of the challenges in the design was to create something which stands out different in the whole housing estate” said local firm Space Race Architects in a project description.

Client wanted something with natural tones which melds with the natural vegetation designed for green areas of the dwelling. Each space in the house contains a different function. The central volume houses an open plan kind of kitchen, dining area and family sitting. Glass facades offer a strong connection to the scenic courtyard landscape. This aims to create a close relationship between inside-outside bringing fresh air and natural daylight inside the house. These specialist features were created by specialist team in-house at Space Race Architects.

The eternal dwelling houses bedrooms with en-suite, formal sitting areas, family lounge, dining, powder room, study and balconies for site views around.

    SITTING AREAS

Cozy sitting areas with soft textures and subtle art work on the main wall combines the interiors for a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere overlooking the house landscapes. The interiors adheres traditional design features and fluid space planning all around the house yet zones are clearly defined.

The kitchen layout has kept the working triangle in mind and has also been provided access from different zones which describes the fluidity in the spaces.

The central free flowing staircase acts as a sculptural element in the house which connects two different floors, creating higher volumes to have grandeur feeling in the high traffic areas. All bedrooms are kept standard sizes as per the client’s inputs. The formal sitting & the bedrooms are designed with full height windows to optimize natural light.

    Balconies

Architect has designed these balconies a perfect spot to catch the sunrise and sunset views of the breathtaking nature. What a great place it would be to enjoy a cuppa in the mornings or a glass of wine after a wonderful day of exploring.
