Our latest project involved the old house renovation of one of the floors in a bungalow in the neighbourhood of Juhu Scheme. Our client lived here with his entire extended family, with one room as his personal space. And now when he got an entire floor to himself (4.5 BHK) he was excited about what could be done with all this space. Inspired by his time in New York City, his brief was clear. A clean, minimalistic, and modern aesthetic, infused with openness and light.
Old House Renovation Inspired From New York Interiors | FAE Design Studio & Pill Design Studio
Our latest project involved the complete renovation of one of the floors in a bungalow, in the neighbourhood of Juhu Scheme. Our client lived here with his entire extended family with one room as his personal space.
A key design challenge for this project was to create an illusion of more height and volume in the spaces despite the low, clear height and numerous beams that were cutting across the spaces. To address this, we used vertical lines as the primary design element and avoided any horizontal design elements.
Like fluted wall panels, full-length wardrobe shutters, and angled and straight-figured veneer panelling. In the living room, we broke the exotic marble slab into three rectangular pieces to introduce an element of play and emphasise the verticality of the space.
Throughout the house, we played with shades of white, black, and brown, using different textured surfaces. Since the residents were young adults, we enlivened this serene palette by infusing colour into the daily furniture pieces to avoid using additional elements.
The den featured a stunning 10 feet long peacock blue cabinet, gracefully housing a grand piano. In the sister’s bedroom, a textured blue wall playfully contrasted with pink subway tiles in her bathroom, accented with delightful gold touches.
The master bedroom featured a warm tan bed against a concrete-finished backdrop. Promoting sustainability wherever we can, the guest bathroom floor had a geometric pattern crafted from recycled waste marble, adding a quirky charm to this intimate space.
The exceptional transformation materialised the client’s desires—an oasis of openness, elegance, and contemporary living. Verticality and creative palettes converged, defying spatial constraints and offering an unparalleled experience of sophistication and comfort.
