How does Jotun distinguish itself from its competitors in aspects such as colour range, durability, and sustainability, considering the nuanced preferences and requirements of their clientele?

Ashish Nimbark – With a global presence that spans across 100 countries, we pride ourselves in providing the highest quality and most accurate colour selection anywhere in the world. Having originated as a marine paint, we have endured the most severe weather conditions. We’ve painted some of the world’s most iconic structures and 14 of the tallest skyscrapers globally, demonstrating our dedication to durability. Sustainability is at the core of our operations – from sourcing raw materials responsibly to developing eco-friendly formulations. We engage with our clients to understand their nuanced requirements. Thereby, allowing us to tailor our offerings to meet their specific needs, setting us apart from competitors.

Can you elaborate on the process behind curating the 2024 colour palette for your recent collection? This includes discussing the sources of inspiration that guided your selections.

Rana Khadra- Our journey begins with a year-long process that starts by researching trends, consumer behaviour, technology and design. We visit design fairs such as Milan Design Week, London Design Week and many more. We then create workshops where we come up with the theme first and accordingly, create a carefully curated selection of colours. This selection encompasses a spectrum of options. Ranging from bright colours, soft colours, and neutrals and ensures that the collection is homogeneous and has loads of matching opportunities.

    CANVAS by Jotun

Could you elaborate on the initiatives undertaken by Jotun to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly practices within the paint industry as a whole?

Ashish Nimbark-Jotun is committed to promoting sustainable practices. We’ve implemented various initiatives such as investing in R&D to create low-VOC (volatile organic compound) and eco-friendly products. Thereby, reducing our carbon footprint through energy-efficient manufacturing processes, and promoting recycling and responsible disposal of paint products.

In conversation with Rana Khadra Jotun

How do you believe colour influences our environment, and in what specific ways does the CANVAS colour palette contribute to creating a serene ambience in our surroundings?

Rana Khadra- I firmly believe that colour not only influences our environment but also our mood and our wellbeing. Colour is more than mere pigment -its energy, is palpable and influential. Canvas was created with the consumer in mind, and how they wish to evoke specific feelings at home, whether calm, relaxed, happy, inspired. Every single colour has been chosen with that in mind and we hope our customers feel that energy and effort we have put in the palette. Ultimately our goal is to help people feel truly at ease and content in their homes

In what ways does Jotun leverage innovative solutions to streamline processes related to colour selection and application for architects and designers?

Ashish Nimbark – At numerous brand outlets, Jotun features JCCI & JCCE (its Interior & Exterior Colour Centre), showcasing 128 colours in both painted blocks and paper chips formats. This inspirational element serves as a valuable resource for architects, interior designers, and homeowners. Thereby, facilitating the discovery of colours and combinations that resonate with their unique identities.
