This 3500 square foot house evoke subtle grandeur through a neutral foundation and understated elegance. Nestled in the heart of the city, this 4.5BHK Pune home by Architects Monika Kharade and Meenal Kharade of G V Katale & Associates, explores opulence and harmony through every design element to create an urban refuge.
3500 Square Foot House Evoke Subtle Grandeur | G.V.Katale & Associates
Spread across a single floor, the 3500 square foot house features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a breakfast nook, a kitchen, a dining area, a family room, and a living space. Each space gently unfolds onto the next, seamlessly transitioning from one space to another. G V Katale & Associates layered each space with a soothing, understated material palette of timber veneer and stone veneer.
Perched on the fourth floor, the 360° floor-to-ceiling openings dramatically frame panoramic views and invite greenery and natural light into all areas. However, its effect can be tempered by drawing the white shears throughout.
Walls that once stood as dividers have gracefully given way, fostering a sense of flow and connection between spaces. The expansive living room is divided into two sections: one segment features cosy seating, while the other includes a temple and seating beside a window that opens to a balcony. A custom made media console graces the Living room, adorned with book-matched marble from Stone Capital and minimally decorated with artefacts from Altrove.
Sitting under a delicate glass chandelier from White Teak Company is a 10-seater white onyx table from G&C Casa paired with leather-back dining chairs. A semi-glass partition separates the dining, from the living. A charming breakfast nook provides a glimpse into a bright, airy kitchen.
Moving further, a narrow passageway leads to four bedrooms, effectively delineating the private and communal spaces.
However, the heart of the home is the family room–surrounded by all bedrooms, it allows for organic interaction and shared memories.
A verdant embrace cocoons the apartment, contrasting with its bustling surroundings. Thus, creating the illusion of a tranquil treehouse.
“We do have a deep love for marble and the refined sculptural quality that it brings to a home,” Meenal and Monika explain. Finished in PU, the wardrobes and walls have a luxe appeal. The incorporation of marble, wood, and expansive openings plays to the apartment’s sense of subtle grandeur.
Furthermore, an arched niche tucks a cosy study away. A faux fireplace with a Kalinga stone top enhances the bedroom’s Victorian charm.
“Most evenings are spent lounging around watching movies in our home theatre,” the homeowners smile.
The interior embraces a neutral foundation. The warm timber ceilings, white walls, Botticino marble, and black and white veined marble all create a laid-back feeling of restrained refinement.
A walk-in-wardrobe in a custom matte black punctuates the warm palette.
Under a warm teakwood ceiling, a custom sage-green four-poster bed rests against an accent wall with intricate moulding details.
Custom PU-finished wardrobes with fluted and mirror details contribute to the refined aesthetic. Polished brass-clad accents punctuate black timber joinery within the mostly neutral palette. Both add a sense of raw opulence and reflective warmth to this home.
A transition to the private areas marks the journey through the home, characterized by a white palette, oak flooring, sage green accents, and mirrors wrapping the bedrooms in calm and composure.
In summary, this home is a layered space of muted palettes, soft forms, and fine joinery, imbuing a timeless warmth.

For architect duo Rakshanda Moog and Dev Thakkar of Den Studio, designing their first home (and debut interior project) came together the way most meaningful things do. Gradually and instinctively. “We started with minimalism,” they say, “but somewhere along the way, the house asked for more character.” Perched on an upper floor with unobstructed views […]

The Wabi Sabi Interior design of this residence was done in 71 days, including designing & execution. Contrary to our standard practice of a step-by-step design process, the process here was pretty fluid & more based on intuitions, visualizations, sketches & discussions. Only sketches were made, which proceeded to working drawings; no 3D visualization was […]
