This 30 sqm studio space has been a place for experimenting with shapes, materials, newer techniques, finishes and how well they complement each other. The studio space comprises of 3 levels moving from public, semipublic to private. Level 1 comprises of the entry court, which is finished in darker IPS. This acts like a pause point for the person entering. The IPS texture is typically raw, smooth and seamless as it is created by polishing and finishing the surface.

Level 2 has a lighter wooden flooring finish. An Ips finished staircase from this level leads to Level 3. Level 3 comprising of the mezzanine floor is the meeting / private room.
The pivoted louvered windows give a view of the entrance through reflection in the mirror on the opposite wall. The window openings on one side allow user interaction at both levels, while the window on the outer face opens up to the balcony, giving the outside view
The dynamic louver facade facing the west of the studio allows one to filter the sunlight coming in. Each of these louvers attaches itself to custom made pivots, allowing horizontal movement via a common wooden handle.
Various wood textures and finishes were studied while designing this budget friendly louvered facade.
The articulation of hierarchy in studio is achieved by differentiating size, shape, color, placement of forms and spaces relative to each other. The design introduces many playful elements for this compact studio.
The full height entrance door divides into 2, such that the upper half can be kept open for light and air while the lower half is shut, maintaining the office privacy. The grooves of the door align with the shelves at the back.
All the proportions in the interior derives from modular proportions. The furniture design inspires from the magical ratio of 1.61 that is Le Corbusier’s golden proportion.
Handcrafted Chandigarh chairs made from teak wood and wooden cane complement the private meeting room.
The gentle glow of soft, dimmed light introduces an element of calm and intimacy into the space creating an ambience that is soothing for the senses.
The metal name plate was another attempt resulting in raw finish with uneven color due to natural rusting of metal.
This studio design is an attempt to utilize the space to its maximum level.
