While it wasn’t this one big apartment we see today when we began working on it, the family had already selected where each room would be placed based on the way sunlight moved through the home. While two bedrooms amalgamated of the 1100-square-foot home in Mumbai would be for the couple, the other would be for their daughter. The fourth bedroom was entirely broken down to accommodate the elaborated kitchen, and we now had a large living room to work with, which allowed us to build a home mandir to its side. The overall material palette predominantly used here is marble and veneer.
Editor’s Note: The interiors of this apartment in Mumbai combine luxury and comfort in the right proportions while experimenting with varied material palettes and textures. The fluted panels have a crisp and clean aesthetic, which, when paired with luxury lighting pieces and cosy couches, brings about a haven of convenience. The colour palette brings both light and dark themes together, reflecting a wide range of emotions. – Gopika Pramod
This home in Mumbai unlocks a healthy balance between function and aesthetics | House Of Hues
This Mumbai home blends luxury with comfort. This apartment was typically a builder flat. We had to make structural changes to make the living room spacious and airy. A contuining aesthetics of marble fluted panels, veneer and mirror, clean lines and soft tones demonstrates how a living room can be designed in a manner that combats the sparse association with it.
The moment we step into the home through its handcrafted door, made in teak wood. finished in colour lamination, we’re taken in by a sense of Indianness in all its design details showcasing the beautiful frame of lord Shreenathji as the entrance glam piece. The clients’ brief of placing the lord right at the entrance whereas he could see the entire house was the starting point for our design process, and we began with planning.
Lord Shreenathji’s frame placed in such a manner it over looks the entire house as the client’s foremost requirement. Challenge faced was with the ceiling height. Slab to slab height was too less and we had to incorporate cassette AC which takes upto 10 inches height. We had to make on the spot changes in the ceiling design, which worked out well in the end.
Niche carved out in the wall to accommodate Buddha sculpture symbolizing calmness in the space. Veneer cladding wall and the ceiling compliments the marble by adding a definition to the designated area.
Neutral color palette of grey , brown and white seamlessly connects the living room to the dining area, providing a sense of continuity to the space. Every piece of furniture is custom-designed to serve the scale and aesthetics of the space. Living room is meticulously designed, considering the taste of the client while seamlessly blending with the designers’ sensibilities. Wooden accents and natural textures create a welcoming, homely ambiance.
To tackle the challenges of the apartment owning large pt beams, it was imperative to minimise the use of architectural partitions such as walls. An open-plan layout helped achieve the same in the dining and living area. The architect opted for a bench dining table instead of a regular one to make the dining area seem more spacious. Veneer cladding on the tv unit wall has been designed and executed in a manner that elevates the height of the space.
Open dining area, opposite to the kitchen “Spaces do speak are you listening?” Some Spaces call-out to define their importance. Adhering to the ‘less is more’ ethos, the furniture is simple, comfortable and custom made
The open dining area opposite to the kitchen makes it super accessible with a clear area of airiness.
Designing the kitchen was another instance where we were fully tapped into our artistic side and treated the space as an explorative canvas. The design, featuring very light mint green units paired with a white composite marble counter and backsplash, is complemented by an island counter in the same marble making it the “piece de resistance” of the apartment.
A sleek island counter table ensures there is enough space for free thoroughfare. The profiled glass crockery unit catch the eye’s attention and add character to the space.
The master bedroom sports an individualised charm. The bedroom is done in neutral shades with a bright blue governing the aesthetic. The master bedroom epitomizes a harmonious blend of hues. The clients’ desire to infuse their a back lit onyx marble found expression in a custom-made bed back wall which when lit up gives away a fiery glow. Unparalleled elegance comes alive in the master bedroom with the backdrop being a Brazilian onyx as the feature wall, which when backlit at night, creates a captivating fiery glow
The master bedroom is an open canvas divided in two sections, the bedroom and the sit-out as the client always wanted their own chai corner in the house. Curved arch with the textured floral wallpaper adds a sense of softness to the bedroom.
The furniture in the bedrooms has been custom-made on-site and detailed as per the client’s requirements. A veneered arch and textured wallpaper draw visual interest in the master bedroom’s sit out space allowing to display some artefacts.
Though each room has a minimalistic design narrative, a material palette of oak veneer and white understated hues create a cohesive look. Swathed in understated hues and geometric patterns, the daughter’s bedroom has a luxurious yet breezy edge. The wardrobe have been thoughtfully planned to pack to a punch with storage and minimize clutter. This distinctive home in Mumbai is ultimately an effortless balance between the clients’ individual tastes and the designers’ sensibilities, with unbridled space as the common denominator
Daughters’ bedroom brings feminine charm to the table with the introduction of delicate pastels and tones of white to convey immense femineity while still cohesive with the language of the home
