In a standalone building, the home occupies the highest floor of the multi-story apartment. Photographed by Studio BluOra, this residence is designed for the two people in their golden age, living together after fulfilling the civic and parenting duties. The lady of the house owns a renowned restaurant in Jaipur whereas her counterpart is retired from the Army. The clients wanted an apartment in Jaipur with an interactive spatial layout having classic aesthetics that is far from mundane. They expected the space to reflect their unique story of calling it a home. Radhika, the principal designer, brought the elements of functionality and aesthetic together to design this haven. She ensured that the roots are reflected in the space by adding a touch of vibrant Indian culture.

The home’s design involved combining two separate flats, connected by a beautifully crafted lobby, each containing three bedrooms. The clients wished to have more space and less material possessions. They achieved this by refurbishing the existing furniture and organized with new ones aesthetically to direct the energy flow of the house. The lobby area opens to the expansive informal living area at one end and dinner area on the other, creating an open and inviting atmosphere.
In the formal living room the Indian theme is skillfully preserved by updating the upholstery of the vintage roll arm sofas. To add character and grandeur to the room, wainscoting is done on the light grey walls which exude minimal sophistication. During the day, light brightens the room reflecting the soft colour palette opted for the room. The designer has carefully chosen marble-patterned tiles with a graceful wrap design to complement the room’s aesthetic. To accentuate the area, diagonal placements of blue lamps in the corners add a touch of sophistication and character to the space.
The informal living room’s interiors have a calming palette of muted grey tones. It has a blush pink sofa and a quaint bar console positioned near the TV. Abundant natural light pours into the room, creating a bright and airy ambiance. A marble table enhanced with golden accents is placed at the centre. The powder room has a half round frameless decorative mirror glass and maroon polished granite counter.
Being in the hospitality business they are often visited by guests, the home is designed keeping this in mind. Additionally, Their grandkids and friends visit them often so they can comfortably rest and enjoy the rooms. In the dining area there is an L-shaped open section with a fixed sofa.
The mirror panelling is used to give an expansive look and simultaneously make a reflecting surface for existing light. The dining table chairs are added to the other side with classic motif upholstery. The opposite side is provided with a multiple-drawer sideboard.
The clients have access to the terrace area of the apartment through the stairs given in the dining area. There are pop-ups of blues and pinks to prevent any monotony created by the neutral colour palette.
Coming to the rooms now, each one is designed differently. The master bedroom is with a sage green palette combined with beige tones. Its bed back is given a brown leather finish. A daybed carved near the large window to enjoy a cup of tea while having the city view or to read the book per mood.
To make it more functional, a table is extended at one side. Room’s washroom is designed with blue-white patterned flooring. There is a storage cabinet provided below the basin area.
In the second room, there is a symmetrical wall panel and to it frames are added in asymmetrically pattern to break the monotony. It has a pastel blush pink painted wall at the back of the bed with tiny frames in-between.
A sleek wooden work area has been incorporated near the TV. The room gets its warmth from the wooden wardrobe and side tables.
The next room is provided with a beige colour wall giving a pop of blue. Cobalt blue is refreshing the room as it is added in the upholstery as well as in the accent chair kept near the window. The colours are incorporated in the rug laid under the bed.
