Inception of our young Architectural Firm begins from here. The design of our own office Pratinav Chadha Architects, our imaginative abode in New Delhi, India. Concept being with use of computational and parametric design methodologies creates this creative office space. The outsides and insides create a sense of welcoming sanctuary which enables a visual delight to anyone, be it our clients or team members. A wave which follows from outside to inside. Each element has been nurtured to enhance our creative space and aptly follows the quote that ‘A building is alive, like a man’ from The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.

Computational and Parametric Design Methodologies Creates this Creative Office Space | Pratinav Chadha Architects

    Visit: Pratinav Chadha Architects

Having lived & travelled in various countries and gaining education from two very different cultural economies namely India & United States, one thing was clear that I wanted to design something which is an amalgamation of modern and vernacular elements and materials. Site being in a densely populated area of Delhi, India, our office had to stand out in order to make an impact in this ever-evolving field of architecture & design.

Concept being with use of computational and parametric design methodologies, mirroring our outsides and insides to create a sense of welcoming sanctuary which enables a visual delight to anyone inside, be it our clients or team members. A wave which follows from outside to inside.

Façade being made of 52 pieces of scraped and restored mild steel welded pipes each arranged in order to follow a defined pattern and same goes for the ceiling made up of reclaimed wood which is CNC into 82 pieces and arranged to form a wave. The façade, ceiling and furniture being the modern feature and our walls and artworks display use of vernacular elements like application of Mud thatch materials with natural pigmentation on walls.

At the entrance one is greeted with a Modulor Man Sculpture from the great Le Corbusier as to reminisce the sense of space and proportions. Artworks being a hand painted mural of a House Plan I did in my bachelor’s and other being a tree of life in traditional Sanjhi Art on a fabric through laser cutting.

Parametric modelling and computational design methodologies were used in order to achieve an appealing and wave like facade and interior ceiling. The facade also has two triangular openings, one on each floor. The challenge was to inhibit stand out design and break the monotony of surrounding buildings.

Instilling art and design at the site location has been beneficial as all the new constructions nearby have taken a note of our building and are also willing to implement design principles and build up sites comprised with artform and design.

With now being more than a year since its completion, the office project has become a Landmark for nearby areas. Some term it as wave structure, some term it as zig zag building, some call it as spiral building and some simply term it as iconic building.

This has increased people’s interest and appreciation towards a built form as they themselves are now motivated to implement such design aesthetics and more new advance developments are taking place. Inclusive design has been implemented so as to allow barrier free approach and utility, to boost creative thinking inside the office.

Wherever possible re-use techniques have been implemented as Façade being made of 52 pieces of scraped and restored mild steel welded pipes and same goes for the ceiling made up of reclaimed wood which is CNC into 82 pieces.
