A home right in the middle of suburbs or Ahmedabad. A home for a family of two generations living together. The site is located in the suburbs of the city Ahmedabad. Away from hustling city, the site is surrounded by green pastures. The site itself is a home to 34 full grown palm trees on the North and Eastern side. As per our understanding of the clients’ requirements, we designed a functional, aesthetic and minimal home that embraces simplicity and grandeur.
A Functional, Aesthetic And Minimal Home That Embraces Simplicity And Grandeur | Studio RISA

Editor’s note : Redefining luxury by breaking stereotypes” Spanning across the lush landscape fringed with Palm trees lies another successful project by Studio Risa; this time a quadrate monolithic bungalow standing high and bold. Its spacious, airy rooms, designed with minimal obstruction, offer joyous movement while enhancing its neutral colour scheme that complements the outdoors. The floor-to-ceiling glass doors adjoining the infinity wooden deck mitigate dreamy visual connections to the al fresco mosaic porch. The contemporary interior anthem, led by the Terrazo tiles, runs through the entirety of the house, homogeneously binding with other exposed materials that exude a minimalistic decor. The idyllic bathroom with its lightwell and Palm tree door handles remains synonymous with the overall design. One may now only hope to find a beach adjacent to it. ~ Venessa Thomas (Co-Editor)
The Brief : The clients are believer of minimalism. Minimalism with the use of natural material and textures was something they wanted in their home. They wanted their home to speak of their ideas of a very simple, minimal and clutter free lifestyle.
The Design Intent : Nestled in the outskirts of city, the primary design intent was to offer the users, a view of lush open gardens from all the spaces of the house.
The romantic idea of waking up to see your garden, or sipping on hot tea whilst lounging in your living room watching birds chirping. We wanted the clients to live an orchestrated lifestyle built on their fantasies.
The project gets its name “Arc” from “The Sun”. As all different spaces (rooms) are strategically placed to receive the soft northern and eastern sunlight.
The Spatial Configuration/Flow : To arrangement of spaces within a building or site, including the layout of rooms, placement of openings, furniture, and circulation patterns, purpose, lighting, ventilation, accessibility, and sustainability to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The highlights :The dining is most live space as you can bring the outdoors in! With windows on both sides, it gets plenty of natural light and air flow. The greens and nature around the space make you feel connected to the outdoors, even when you’re inside.
Favourite a Spect Of The ProjectDouble height living room is the heart of the house. All private spaces open into this space. It consists of family area, family kitchen and island dining, making the family be together as much time possible.
The challengesThe challenges we faced such as managing resources, complying with regulations, adapting to site conditions, collaboration, material selection.
The material paletteThe whole house consist of single palette of materials, in order to have harmony in all different spaces, making it look one. Natural Stone, terrazzo , warm colour with hues of brown and light veneer.
The takeawayOur client was coming together of similar thoughts; from two different age groups. The journey was not without its challenges, but we were able to overcome them through open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to compromise. Our collaboration has taught us the importance of listening to others, being open to new ideas, and respecting each other’s opinions. We feel blessed to have made it happen.
