Ahmedabad is not one but two cities, one – the heritage city and other – the metropolitan. There are many homes that reflect either part of the city well, but only a few that combine both the elements of the city beautifully while bringing together different parts of the world. Our client, Banoj’s beautiful home in Ahmedabad exudes the true elements of the house in a concrete way. Banoj had an eye for art and architecture. The family had a central idea for their home and “Ilika Interior Design” studio by Jaimini Mahida brought the idea to life exquisitely.

Beautiful Home In Ahmedabad Exudes The True Elements Of The House In A Concrete Way | Ilika Interior Design Studio

The living room that is completed in the hues of blue, grey and white, has two distinct living spaces – one for entertaining and other for the family. “Even before beginning the project, Mohanty’s had this distinction in mind,” said Mahida. The distinction needed to be stark but not concrete. So, the visual partition and the main element of the space is the swing which does not break the room in two but creates a visual division, softy.
The beautiful swing with different shades of veneer, cane backrest and brass chain is a customized design by Ilika Interior Design Studio from Jamnagar’s local artist. The formal seating area has a white theme, with a beautiful white couch and ottoman, along with furniture that has a faded white finish, including a rocking chair that beautifully melts in with the swing. The brass finished center table with a whiter pearl top finishes up the part that is closer to the traditional theme of the rest of the house.
The other part behind the swing marked in blue and grey has a more modern outlook. This space is breezier and brighter with a white modern yet utilitarian center table. The wooden backdrop along with the brass art piece that ties the whole room together despite its traditional and modern differences.
The perfect addition to the room, the art piece was not unveiled to Mahida until the unwrapping after initial designs that Banoj (client name) unveiled it to her. The art piece was found by them at an art exhibition and it was love at first sight for the couple. The brass and white complements the contrasting seating areas.
The textile frames above the blue cabinet are done by Brinda Patel (Founder of Abstract Home) that adds a hint of summer. The huge louver partition is a storage, showpiece and divider between entry passage and dining.
The dining space has dark to light sea-blue wall with Jharokha frames. The dining table, and cabinets were bought from Boho homes which have beautiful carvings.
The passage is designed to reflect the calmness of the home. Inspired by Vastu, a mirror is placed in the north to bring good luck. It serves two purposes, the ancient wisdom of Vastu and create an illusion of space with it.
The Buddha statue and its reflection spreads positive energy throughout the space. The harmony of the space was only possible due to the wallpaper, it was a tough task to find something that balances with the mirror and Buddha idol without overpowering it. The green tie and dye wallpaper was the perfect match.
Master Bedroom : The couple is fond of many things, but the art is reminiscent in all parts of their lives. They wanted to bring one of the most beautiful places in the world to their home. Blue domes, Paved Paths, Candy-coloured houses, White-washed edifices and the sea are reminiscent of Santorini and made for the inspiration for their bedroom.
The canopy blue bed along with white and blue side tables that hold memories of Paris in a jar for the couple. The bed set brings the space the uplifted colour done beautifully by Brinda, Founder of Abstrac Home. The back wall is cladded with flexstone with a custom colour that reminds of the earth at the sea. The blue desk with a cane finish vertical storage unit brings about the perfect addition to the room with brass décor and a bookshelf.
Client’s Mother’s Room : The most traditional and serene room of the house has to be Banoj’s mother’s room. Her room’s inspiration is her – simple, modest, and devout. So, Mahida decided to take up a neutral palette for the room but added a green floral wallpaper from Asian Paints to bring in some colour while preserving the serenity.
The intricately-designed furniture is customised by a local artist from Jodhpur including the bed, side tables, temple and hanging lights.
Daughter’s Room : Banoj’s daughter room has a light blue theme with the bespoke floral wall murals that are done by Shruti Choksi, Founder of Musauvari behind the reading nook and a raised bed with a bookshelf on the opposite end.
The backdrop of the bed is made by flexstone to match the blue of the room. The desk is white to match the rest of the home with a beautiful abstract painting above it.
As it is said – The family that reads together, stays together. With over 12,000 books that they now have donated, it seems to be an understatement that Mohanty’s are fond of reading. Mohanty’s. The family needed a space for their hobbies other than their rooms. The guest room that doubles as a hobbies’ room for the family is a reading space along with Yoga and exercise room.
The multifunctional space has custom made sofa-cum-bed and the wall art was also designed by Choksi and is inspired by the book – The forest of Enchantment. The other end of the room has a white book cabinet and storage unit.
The room peeks to the balcony. Keeping up the white theme, the canopy-style sitting space along with the greens make up for a beautiful balcony.
