Workspace Design “Wave 312” : A Walk Into A Spectrum Domino. Designed for the hair colour brand – Birds of Paradyes, is a project that relies heavily on the concept of insertion through kit of parts and colour theory, while staying true to the already existing strong brand image of Paradyes. The brief was clear yet non-restrictive. The representation of the graphical brand image (waves depicting hair) and 9 colours of the hair-colour range were an integral part of design conceptualization.

“Keeping the brand’s purpose and identity on the pedestal of curating a vibrating ambiance, through a plethora of complexions, the workspace manifests a spot for smooth and sleek details. If color therapy was translated into a physical space, Wave 312 would be an excellent instance of it.” – Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)
The site enabled an open floor plan with visual connectivity from the entrance to the employee workspace. The continuous insertion provides inclusion of function, division of spaces and play of colours. Curves, waves and fillets depict the brand graphics and ethos. The language is followed throughout the space from the layout, conduits to details like cabinet and door handles.
The visitor is welcomed with a two-layered entrance door designed to be a pleasant first interaction. It exaggerates the polarity and subtly represents the whimsical space one is about to experience.
“The door handle is the handshake of the building” Keeping Juhani Pallasmaa’s words in mind, the two-layered entrance door is designed to be a pleasant first interaction with the user. It exaggerates the polarity and subtly represents the whimsical space one is about to experience.
The display/retail space follows a neutral color scheme. Thus, encouraging the products to be the highlight of the space. The layout is simple and functions on efficiency and maximizing the footprint available. The arches connecting two modules act as path defining elements.
The spatial layout was designed in a way to provide maximum layers. A visitor standing in the neutral colour schemed retail/waiting area can get a sneak peek into the warm and bright toned pantry unit. The arches act as space demarcating elements while also exaggerating the corridors/passages.
A combination of a compact pantry unit and a multipurpose sculptural table makes for a casual breakout space in the office. An office space that encourages casual and comfortable expression by the user. The continuity pattern in the modules is visible in the pantry area through the metal waves which connect one module to another.
The cabin partition wall has a gradient which smoothly leads one from the warm colours to the blue and purple hues of the workspace.. The gradient on the cabin partition leads the user further into the studio and workspace of Birds of Paradyes’ employees.
The informal cabin is the only enclosed space in the office. The colour on one of the walls helps tie it in with the outer brighter colour areas (like the pantry). The cabin door has an exaggerated wooden curve handle and fluted glass for play for colours, materials and silhouettes. In this photograph, the human represents scale of the space while also acting as a styling/artwork element.
The workspace has an open floor plan which provides flexibility and maximum interaction. The studio space can be a part of the workspace as required by the users.
The studio unit is designed to be a comfortable casual seating space while the workspace is bit for formal. However, the placement and layout of the furniture elements allow maximum interaction between both kinds.
Visual connectivity to the terrace enables it to be a part of the office interiors thus making the terrace accessible and workspace seem larger.
A pergola is added in the terrace which acts as a semi open space and makes the interior to exterior connection seamless.
The brand fosters the idea of “Come as you are” and rawness, encouraging the designers to let go of false ceiling and cladding. The playfulness of the brand is exhibited through the use of colours and materials.
The variation in types of coloured and textured glass makes for an interesting element in terms of transparency and translucency. The details are varied, however the underlying theme of the brand image is continued throughout successfully.
