Your Guide to Moving to Texas: 8 Things You Should Know in Advance

Texas is a wonderful state to move to. However, before you decide to make the move, you should know several things, such as what the weather is like, what the job market is like, and how affordable the Lone Star State is. Here are Your Guide to Moving to Texas: 8 Things You Should Know in Advance.

1. The Weather in Texas Changes Significantly Throughout the Year

Seeing as Texas is a big state – in fact, at 268,596 square miles and over thirty million residents, it is the second-largest state in the U.S. by both area and population – it makes sense that the weather can vary a lot.

The east side climate is humid and subtropical while the west is arid or semi-arid.

In Dallas, temperatures vary from 39°F in the winter to 96°F in the summer, and in Austin, the temperature rarely falls below 30°F or rises above 102°F.

If you enjoy experiencing the different seasons of the year, Texas is a good state to move to.

2. There Is a Thriving Job Market

Before you start planning your move to the Lone Star State and hire top Texas movers to transport your worldly possessions safely, you are sure to want to know that there is a job waiting for you in Texas.

Well, the good news is, at present, Texas has a thriving job market. So, if you are planning on finding a new job when relocating to the state, you have various opportunities.

Big companies like Tesla and Black and Decker have recently moved to Texas. And there are especially lots of job opportunities in the education, healthcare, engineering, and technology sectors.

Austin particularly has a bustling economy. Employment in Austin is expected to grow by 47% over the next few years.

3. Taxes are Low

Texas is one of the few states in the U.S. that does not have a state income tax. Sales taxes in Texas are also relatively low.

Many people decide to move to Texas because of the state’s low taxes.

4. The Cost of Living Is Affordable

Compared to many other states in the U.S., Texas’s cost of living is very affordable. So, that is another reason why many people move to the Lone Star State.

The cost of living in Texas is 8.5% lower than it is in Florida. And New York’s cost of living is a whopping 43% higher than it is in Dallas.

Groceries, gas, and utilities are especially low in Texas compared to many other U.S. states. And, of course, it gets more affordable if you stay away from the city. There are so many home-buying opportunities in Leander, Taylor, Manor, and other small communities, so you have plenty of choices.

5. Public Transportation Ranges from Excellent to Poor

In general, if you decide to move to Texas, you will probably need a car to get around. However, some cities do have excellent public transportation systems, so the ease of getting around without a car very much depends on where you are specifically moving to.

Austin and Dallas both have excellent public transportation systems, but other places are lacking in public transport infrastructure.

6. Texas Is a Great Location for Nature Lovers

If you love the great outdoors, Texas is a great place to live. There are multiple state and national parks to visit, which offer activities like hiking, camping, fishing, and boating.

And you are sure to enjoy visiting places like the Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site to see ancient pictographs and Padre Island National Seashore to get a glimpse of rare sea turtles.

7. Texas Is a Wonderful Place for Live Music

Texas is well-known for its abundance of live music, especially in Austin. And do not think that you will only find venues that have bands playing country and bluegrass. You will find a wide variety of different music at venues throughout the state, from blues to hip hop.

8. Texas Has an Abundance of Marvelous Food

You will easily find a variety of excellent restaurants, diners, eateries, and food trucks throughout Texas, with a wide range of different cuisines.

Texas is particularly well-known for its barbecue food. But do not worry if you are a vegetarian. A number of vegetarian restaurants have sprung up throughout Texas in recent years, and even many barbecue establishments now cater to vegetarians.

So, if you enjoy eating out, you are sure to find many great places to dine, regardless of the town or city you move to.

Though, you will find a wider variety of international cuisine establishments, including Indian restaurants, and vegetarian options in cities like Austin and Dallas than you will find in small towns.
