  • ‘Yamuna Palace’ Is An Ode To The Diversity Of Indian Culture, Art, Religion, And Heritage | Shreesh Design Studio LLP

Nestled in the city of Jetpur, Gujarat, the private residence’s first impression is of luxe, and grandeur. Spanned across two floors, the built-up of this abode is 6400 sq.ft. The modern inkling of the entrance in contemporary materials and treatment is seen at first glance. A division of the facade into rectangular or square shape and sizes give it a sort of linearity. There is a subtle balance of grey, white, and brick texture. The colours and texture complement each other and bring out the essence of modern living and aesthetical appeal. The primary focus of the designers was to fabricate a home rooted in the Indian mind-set with a contemporary touch. ‘Yamuna Palace’ is an ode to the diversity of Indian culture, art, religion, and heritage.

“Expressing faith through design is an inward task, which in this project is modified to be sharp and coherent.”- Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

The entrance is divided into parking and a semi-partial garden through flooring patterns. The flooring arrangement is in a diagonal layout, keeping soft cape to a minimum. The perforated compound wall portrays an equal amount of transparency and security to the residents. ‘

‘Yamuna Palace’ justifies the design ideology as it speaks of traditionalism amalgamated with a contemporary approach. Upon crossing the main door, the foyer leads to a framed wooden partition wall with an idol in the centre aligned to greet you at the entrance.

The blend of teak wood veneer and opera Fantastico Italian marble makes an impeccably charming welcome to the house. The living room is a double-height space with vivid and energetic tones. There is a sense of grandness when you take in the living room.

An intricate stone artwork adorns the back wall soaring to two floors of double-height. The mural carries religious importance with a mixture of white and yellow hues which is a perfect neutral background against the colourful furniture arranged in the space.

Adjacent to it lies an informal seating area dripping in teal blue coloured couches. In line with this seating is the dining area followed by the kitchen.

The dining space has a calming aura to it with beige colours, wooden finishes, and stone traces. One of the fascinating features of these family rooms is the ceiling which exhibits a pattern in a white CNC cut sheet placed against dark-mustard background so that it is highlighted.

The pattern is inspired by floral motifs. The repetition of the ceiling binds the familial spaces together as having their own identity while having a commonality.

The C-shaped kitchen follows a relatively dark tint of grey and black which is in a balanced dialect to the light shade of marble used for flooring. An island breakfast table sits in the centre of the kitchen, enhancing its lively character.

The puja room is a space where the clients were particular about the design. The amazingly carved and detailed door of the puja room celebrates Indian craftsmanship and artisanship.

Keeping a sublime address for the room, the ceiling design is a vibrant and colourful piece of art showing Indian deities and morals.

The staircase backdrop is grand and rich in its black and golden element, which is in contradiction to every other aspect of the house.

The landing to the first floor is welcomed by a sitting area with sofa sets dipped in light maroon.

There is a total of five bedrooms spanning across the residence, each with its personal set of design, colour palette, and material spread. An aesthetic and bold combination of marble with veneer finishes and bright shades are presented in these private spaces.

There are impressions of traditional touches in bedrooms in the form of bed heads. These designs are innocently infused with modern propositions.

The dressing areas attached to the bedrooms are shimmered with mirrors on all sides, which makes the room look double its actual size and is very well-lit.

A home theatre is designed in accordance to the overall material palette in the house but with a twist. It has low seating area, making it extremely comfortable and easy for family members to relax around and use the space the way they desire.

The wooden finishes are highlighted through the soft and delicate light coming from the fixtures. The balconies of the bedrooms open to the front facade, overlooking the hardscape of the garden.

‘Yamuna Palace’ is an ode to the diverse eccentricity that is Indian culture, art, religion, and heritage. The creative and diverse approach of infusing contemporary and traditional design concepts is a skilful art that has to be mastered with precision and the designers have conveyed it with a crisp understanding.
