    Design brief

When we started conceptualising the villa house design, the brief was pretty clear to the clients. Mr. Sachin Bajla expressed his desire for a roomy farmhouse with ample landscape space and outdoor seating, while preserving the natural ground levels.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Arpita desired a highly practical farmhouse with user-friendly layouts and features that facilitate everyday living. The design also needed to ensure ease of maintenance, using durable materials and finishes that require minimal upkeep.

The villa embodies a fusion of modern aesthetics with traditional courtyard-style architecture. The design embraces the natural contours of the land, spreading out gracefully over two levels.

This strategic layout ensures that all the spaces get maximum views of the surroundings and landscape, and none of the bedrooms share common walls, maintaining privacy and offering each room its own garden space.

    Spatial Planning:

    Lower Ground Floor

This level is dedicated to public spaces. It includes a spacious living room, dining area, kitchen, servant quarters, and two guest bedrooms. This open and inviting space encourages social interactions and gatherings.

    Architectural Challenges and Innovations

One of the significant challenges was designing the roofs for the expansive plan. The solution was to cover each functional area with sloping roofs while using flat roofs for the common passages. This approach not only overcame the design challenge but also resulted in a visually appealing symmetry of sloping roofs across individual areas.

The entrance lobby welcomes a moment of pause to glance at the grand villa through glass doors and partitions.

The living room, almost square in shape, is the perfect space to loosen up and chill with its lofty ceiling and sloping roof. The ridge of the roof is strategically placed diagonally, facing the northeast direction.

This innovative design choice allows the inclusion of high-ceiling corner windows, which maximise the influx of diffuse northern light. Additionally, these windows offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the poolside garden, blending the indoors with the serene outdoors.

    Dining Area

This beautiful and ambient dining space is open on both sides, with the external side facing the swimming pool and the internal side facing the courtyard.

The highlight of the ground floor is the beautifully designed courtyard, open to the sky and visible from both the living area and the upper floor passage.

This serene space features a stunning Shiva statue, which adds a touch of spiritual tranquility The passage around the courtyard connects the public spaces with two downstairs bedrooms.

The upper floor also houses a family area, thoughtfully positioned to serve as a versatile space for recreation. This area continues the theme of seamless integration with the outdoors, featuring large windows and a sloping roof that accentuates the villa’s architectural elegance.

    Bedrooms

The lower floor of the villa features two guest bedrooms on the lower floor, with their access separated from the lobby itself, ensuring that guest areas and family areas maintain their privacy.

Moving to the upper floor, four luxurious bedrooms await. Every bedroom is designed to maximise comfort and capitalise on the stunning mountain views. Every bedroom is equipped with its own walk-in wardrobe and private deck, offering a personal outdoor space.

    Outdoor Highlights

The villa’s outdoor amenities include a large swimming pool with a floating deck gazebo. This serene spot not only provides a perfect place to relax but also features a rain shower. Thus enhancing the luxurious experience.

    Furniture and Interiors

The furniture has been carefully curated in terms of aesthetics, with materials like cane and wood floors against white walls to enhance the depth of the house. The vibrant colours and evergreen motifs of the fabric selection bring out the relation between the indoors and outdoors. This villa in Aamby Valley transcends traditional living. Thus integrating contemporary style with vernacular wisdom to create a space that is both functional and visually captivating.
