  • This Retro Home Designed For A FamilyBalances Nostalgia And Modern Simplicity | Pratspaces. In – Interior Design Studio

Tucked away in the quiet lanes of Salem, Retro Resonance is a two-level ,1800 sq.ft area home designed for a family who wanted a space that beautifully balances nostalgia and modern simplicity. The ground floor was thoughtfully crafted for the elderly parents to live comfortably year-round. The first floor includes a cosy bedroom and an expansive terrace that welcomes the family during their annual visits.

The clients approached us through a referral, having admired our earlier projects. They wished for something minimal yet rich in aesthetic and functional appeal. The design embraces nostalgia with earthy warmth, handcrafted details, and clean lines. They created a home that feels rooted yet refreshingly current.

    Living Room Design Concept

The living room formed the core of our design concept, as it needed to harmoniously reflect the tastes of three generations living under one roof. We envisioned a fusion of ethnic charm and modern elegance to bring together diverse preferences. “The designer thoughtfully curated traditional artworks and wall décor to add cultural depth. They crafted the temple space within the living room with intricate carvings that celebrate heritage.”

    nostalgia

To maintain a nostalgia and a grounded, earthy tone, we opted for warm hues in the furniture. This was paired with modern silhouettes that introduced a sense of freshness and balance. The geometric patterns on the rug added a subtle layer of contemporary character while staying rooted in natural brown tones.

The lighting choices—crafted from banana fibre—enhanced the organic feel of the space, while their sleek, modern forms reinforced the idea of fusion, creating a cohesive and soulful living environment.

    Optimized Space Utilization

“The designer positioned the dining and kitchen spaces adjacent to each other and thoughtfully converted a compact, room-like area into the dining zone just before the kitchen.” To optimise the available space, we replaced the conventional dining table with a sleek wall-mounted ledge and paired it with compact chairs, ensuring comfort without compromising on functionality.

For décor, we introduced a geometric wallpaper in warm, earthy tones on the upper wall to visually expand the space while maintaining a cozy ambiance. The highlight of this area is the banana fibre pendant lamp, which adds a soft, organic glow—beautifully tying together the design language of warmth, simplicity, and modern fusion.

Each bedroom was designed uniquely to reflect the personality and preferences of the family members occupying them.

From carefully chosen wallpapers and wall decals to coordinated rugs, lamps, and furnishings, every element was curated to create a cohesive yet distinctive atmosphere for each room.

The design intent was to blend comfort, aesthetics, and individuality—ensuring that every space feels personal and deeply connected to its user.

Retro Resonance is a celebration of comfort, culture, and quiet elegance — a home where old-world charm meets modern-day functionality.
