In the buzzing financial district of Hyderabad, Tabula Rasa 2.0 makes its presence known through its popular charm, its vibrant music venue scene, and, more evidently, its remarkable visual identity. This urban oasis, designed by 23 Degrees Design Shift, stands in stark contrast to the vertical glass facades that dominate the area, offering a much-needed cultural respite for the local IT crowd.
This Music Venue-Inspired Restaurant Is A Much-Needed Cultural Respite | 23 Degrees Design Shift
The client, a music enthusiast, envisioned a music venue that would echo the ethos of its predecessor while pushing boundaries. restaurant.”
The courtyard’s precise dimensions create an ideal performance space and design focal point, optimized for a captivating audio-visual and tactile experience.
The entrance of the music venue inspired space is a thoughtfully designed portal, opening up into the vastness of the space. Upon entering, patrons find themselves at a crossroads of experiences. Indoor and outdoor spaces merge seamlessly through slide-open glazing, forming fluid zones—like the semi-open bar, closed bar, and open-air music venue—that let guests shape their own experience.
The architectural language of Tabula Rasa 2.0 is a study in contrasts. A segmented sloped roof appears to float above solid walls, creating a dialogue between weight and lightness. The main structure combines concrete and steel, while the courtyard’s adaptive fiberglass roof responds to light and seasonal changes.
Most striking is the series of jack arches forming a veranda that seamlessly incorporates functional spaces like toilets into the design. The layout of the restaurant lends the place a character of openness, a place meant for new and enriching experiences.
Tabula Rasa 2.0’s lighting and landscaping enrich its architectural story, with under-nosing lights highlighting structures and casting a warm glow from day to night.
Lush greenery surrounds the courtyard and outdoor areas, providing natural cooling and maintaining a comfortable microclimate within the restaurant. This thoughtful integration of lighting and landscaping not only elevates the aesthetic appeal but also aligns with the project’s ethos.
While the restaurant takes dominance in its spirit and energy, it carves out a quiet retreat through its materiality. The material palette pays homage to the project’s philosophy of creating a space that ages gracefully. Grey cement oxide plaster unifies the various zones, providing a neutral yet dynamic canvas that breathes and evolves over time.
Jet-black granite floors contrast with acacia wood, while lakha red granite adds warmth to the courtyard. Wicker panels overhead soften the space’s linear geometry. Suspended wicker panels crown the space, their organic forms offsetting the linear design.
Together, these elements define Tabula Rasa, reshaping perceptions of space and geometry to create a fresh, immersive experience.
The restaurant incorporates several carefully thought-out, sustainable details. The sloped roof lets in natural light, while jute drapes block glare, reducing artificial lighting and cooling needs. Sliding windows allow cross-ventilation, and a cooling system using kitchen RO water serves 75% of the seating area.
The choice of less processed materials, like rough granite flooring, not only adds character but also minimises maintenance needs, embodying the restaurant’s philosophy of mindful, efficient design that evolves beautifully with time.
Tabula Rasa 2.0 is more than just a restaurant; it’s a sensory experience that honours its namesake – a blank slate upon which patrons can write their own stories. The growing social media buzz of the restaurant is also reflected in its patronage, translating into its ever-growing footfall. As the sun sets and the music rises, this thoughtfully crafted space transforms, offering a perfect urban escape that resonates with the rhythm of Hyderabad’s vibrant spirit.
