  • This Jewellery Store Design Is A Fusion of Timeless Design and Emotion | Forearch Studios

A jewellery boutique in Lucknow, scripted with the narrative of timeless design, is it the sparkle or the sentiment that makes jewellery so enduring in India? Perhaps this jewellery store design is the perfect fusion of both, creating pieces that carry the weight of history and the promise of the future.

Editor’s Note: “Kakun, a jewellery store in Lucknow, designed by Forearch Studios, harmonizes traditional aesthetics and contemporary styles. With travertine on the exterior, antique furnishings, and glowing light design in the interior, the 2,800 sq. ft. area elevates the design intent. With features that range from vaulted niches to organic forms, the space speaks timeless value and sophistication of the jewellery displayed.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

This Jewellery Store Design Is A Fusion of Timeless Design and Emotion | Forearch Studios

In Lucknow, this ethos is brought to life by Forearch Studios in Kakun’s new fine jewellery store, a venture that marks a new chapter for a brand renowned for its exquisite silver jewellery.

“They envisioned a space that mirrored their design philosophy towards fine jewellery —a timeless fusion of traditional and modern aesthetics”, reveals Mikasha Sinha Pasricha. She crafted the 2800 sqft retail environment alongside Aman Pasricha and Pranat Singh.

The transformation started with reshaping the original, load-bearing structure from a residential past to a refined commercial future. A coalition of tiles with a travertine finish and rough texture in an ashlar arrangement define the contemporary façade. Aman explains, “The chiselled stone surface introduces a tactile depth, with embedded profile lights casting an artful glow across the exterior.”

    Display Window

Akin to a gallery frame, a recessed display window entices passersby with a coup d’oeil of the exquisite collection. Behind the glass, sheer drapery creates layers of intrigue and imparts a graceful softness that tempers the facade’s bold lines.

    Design Concept

Inside, the design concept emphasizes fluidity, allowing patrons to effortlessly navigate through the space. “Organic forms, antique mirrors, intricate details, and meandering ceilings that resemble the water’s contours reinforce the theme,” asserts Mikasha. She adds, “Planning the spatial layout was a challenge. However, we had to work meticulously with the existing walls and openings to uphold the structural strength. Meanwhile, ensuring a smooth flow for guests to experience each zone as a cohesive part of the whole.”

    Reception Area

At the outset, an assortment of exotic treatments in the reception area sets the stage for a striking welcome. As one ventures toward the exhibit sections, a neutral color palette creates a serene backdrop—think the understated luxury of stucco textured walls and polished marble underfoot. Moreover, it seamlessly unifies the entire shell.

    Contrast Ceiling

“An intentional choice to accentuate the artistry of the showcased jewellery”, notes Pranat. Cloaked in a deep tone, the ceiling becomes a canvas of contrast. Meanwhile, its rhythmic undulations foster a sense of continuity and divert attention from the perceived constraints of the space.

Elegant arches delineate the transitional openings, complemented by ornate brackets. The nuanced vocabulary of carved details extends onto the antique furniture, curated locally from vintage outlets. From neoclassical chairs to stately console tables, every piece is sculpted in solid teak wood and stained in sumptuous black. Additionally, vibrant touches of red upholstery elevate the dramatic flair.

    Lighting

Soft lighting cascades across the displays, making each piece shimmer against its minimalist backdrop. “We undertook extensive research and experimentation with lux levels to achieve the right balance of illumination, as it was a space devoid of windows due to safety considerations,” shares Aman. Moreover, this careful calibration also results in a captivating play of light and shadow across the store. For instance, on the protruding volume of the grid display.

Nestled opposite the seating lounge, an eclectic alcove beckons exploration with its charm. Adorned with a tapestry reminiscent of a vaulted passageway, this cozy nook stirs nostalgia. Moreover, it is sheltered beneath a stretched fabric ceiling that casts a natural light effect.

Each corner of Kakun’s new branch nods to the brand’s sophisticated craftsmanship, cultivating a milieu that feels both classical and fresh. Much like the jewellery it harbours, this store boasts a novel design language. Moreover, it weds traditional influences with contemporary aesthetics, transcending temporal limits.
