This Home Reveals The Versatility of Marble In A Classical Interior Design Style | Studio GSA

In the world of interior design, where details define spaces, designing a home for a client with deep expertise in marble presents a unique opportunity. This residence is more than just a living space; it is a playground for marble in all its glorious forms. Every room has been thoughtfully designed to highlight the stone’s versatility, texture, and elegance within a classical interior design style, making it the defining feature of the home.

Editor’s Note: “This home, ‘Peter’s Playground,’ redefines elegance in a poetic embrace of marble—bold yet graceful, dramatic yet tranquil. Each room speaks in a different design dialect, sculpted in stone and softened by light. It is a play in restraint and richness, with materials conversing through each surface and corner.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

Foyer

The journey begins at the lift foyer, where a striking relief marble feature wall welcomes guests alongside a sleek wooden bench. The interplay of textures and materials creates an inviting prelude to the home.

A textured wooden door marks the main entrance, leading into a foyer where the flooring sets the tone for the rest of the house—white marble with a bold black inlay, establishing an immediate sense of grandeur.

A veneered storage unit enhances both aesthetics and practicality in the foyer. This seamless addition meets the client’s need for storage without compromising design integrity.

A marble and metal table adds a touch of refinement, while an ornately framed mirror introduces depth and light, creating an elegant first impression.

Living and Dining Area

As one moves deeper into the home, the family and dining areas continue the marble narrative but with an unexpected twist. Fluted wooden panels, painted in crisp white, rise from the marble floors and extend upward, transitioning into soft beige-painted walls.

The bedroom doors and the glass paneling leading to the formal living and pooja areas echo this feature, establishing a consistent design language. In the dining area, the marble inlay flooring mimics the look of a luxurious carpet. As a result, there is no need for an actual rug, allowing the stone’s intricate patterns to take center stage. Meanwhile, the family area features a television unit framed by relief marble cladding, adding depth and dimension to the space.

The formal living room exudes warmth and allure. Plush leather sofas offer a sense of comfort, and fluted wooden panels adorn the ceiling, adding a layer of texture. A concealed bar area, clad in silver river marble, becomes an understated yet striking feature. The bar stools, featuring intricate Indian motifs, add a cultural touch that grounds the space in tradition.

The bathrooms in this home go beyond functionality, offering a rich tactile and visual experience by design. A rich tapestry of marble textures unfolds in each one, featuring a dynamic interplay of fluted marble, lapatro, and leather finishes. The contrast between rough and polished surfaces elevates the sensory experience, making even the most private spaces feel luxurious.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, marble takes on a dramatic presence. A fiery red marble with bold, expressive veins dominates the space, serving as a statement feature. Each slab was carefully hand-selected to ensure that every surface tells its own unique story. The kitchen is not just a place for cooking; it is a space where the drama of natural stone unfolds in its most striking form.

Master Bedroom

Each bedroom in the home carries its own unique personality, tailored to the preferences of its occupant. The master bedroom is a serene retreat, enveloped in a calming beige palette.

Children’s Bedroom

The first children’s bedroom, designed for a car enthusiast, features a vibrant blue accent wall that sparks imagination and energy.

Guest Room

The guest room, in contrast, is a sanctuary of calm. Soft pastel hues and carefully chosen textures create a tranquil environment, ensuring that visitors feel at home in a space that is both inviting and refined.

Second Son’s Bedroom

The second son’s room introduces an element of playfulness with a custom-built bunk bed and an upper-level adorned with striking blue onyx, adding a sense of wonder and adventure.

The visual language of this home is rooted in a sophisticated interplay of materials, textures, and patterns. While marble dominates, it is carefully balanced with warm elements such as fluted wood, plush leather, and intricate detailing. The thoughtful layering of textures—textured marble against smooth finishes—creates a dynamic visual interest. Moreover, contemporary furniture accented with ornate details adds to a cohesive and refined aesthetic.

This home is a true celebration of marble. From the grandeur of inlaid flooring to the subtle elegance of relief wall cladding, every design choice has been made with a deep appreciation for the material. The result is a space that is luxurious yet inviting. However, it feels contemporary yet steeped in the classical interior design style—an embodiment of the homeowner’s passion for marble and a testament to the artistry of design. Despite its solidity, marble is seamlessly used in the interiors, appearing almost effortless in its application. Moreover, it reflects the designers’ mastery in working with the material.
