Editor’s note : Curious juxtapositions can be seen at first glance of the built spaces in contrast to the open in this house, designed by Imagine Design Studio. The client had two primary requirements: first, to create a sense of spaciousness and visual expansiveness in the space, and second, to optimize the storage capacity. Our task was to make the most of the floor space of the leveled house with minimum turnover time and budget.
In terms of spatial realignment of the floor plan, we made 2 major changes in the existing layout of the house. Altering the staircase had a major impact on the aesthetics of the space, while revamping the terrace garden and upper terrace created new opportunities for outdoor living and entertainment.
Removing the wall between both the terraces and redesigning it ended up opening up the space and creating a more seamless connection between indoors and outdoors.
The ground floor plan lines out the drawing room, kitchen, dining, puja room, and a guest bedroom. As we move upwards, the mezzanine floor has a spacious living and study area.
The petite living room with a minimalist approach incorporated grooving patterns and wall paint instead of heavy wall decorations along with a wooden partition used to divide the space while still maintaining a cohesive design. The pop color of the furniture provides a striking contrast to the overall aesthetic.
Moving ahead to the first floor, there’s a master bedroom, daughter’s bedroom and a home-theater.
The spatial aesthetics for the rooms are all about continuity in elemental language, colors, textures and materials that create an uninterrupted spatial flow and visual expanse.
Every design decision, material and color choice has been derivative of this thought. Bedrooms are designed not to just add pomp and luxury but invite peace and quietude.
The home theater and bar area is designed with a distinct color palette that is intended to draw attention to the space. Additionally, the use of ambient lighting helps to enhance the overall ambiance of the area.
This home invites you to explore every detail, surface, and corner, each with its own unique story to tell. We prioritized creating a peaceful environment throughout the design, infusing simplicity into every aspect of life.
By ingeniously integrating functionality into the space, the home becomes a geometric canvas with clean and precise lines all along.
To the terrace garden, we have designed the space to depict an amphitheater, which connects us to the main terrace.
Through our design approach, the goal was to achieve a visual dichotomy throughout the spaces; we focused on utilizing minimal layering techniques and understated materials to establish a subdued, yet controlled ambiance with the incorporation of colors, patterns, and textures.
The flooring and ceiling were kept simple to allow for the other elements to take center stage without overwhelming the overall subtlety of the space.
