This multi-service facility, designed by Vishva, includes office spaces, meeting and conference rooms, laboratories, and a canteen. With a strong commitment to sustainability, the client emphasized eco-friendly building design in the project brief. Vachana, the lead architect, is an expert in sustainable architecture, playing a pivotal role in achieving this recognition.
This Eco-friendly Building Sets A New Benchmark In Sustainable Architecture | Vishva Associates LLP
The project reflects a thorough understanding of solar passive design principles, combined with the latest advancements in technology. Thus, ensuring a comprehensive, sustainable design approach. The final result closely mirrored the 3D walkthrough presented in the early stages of the project, achieving a 99% similarity. This reflects the clarity of vision in the architect’s design and the skilful execution by the contractor’s and client’s team.
The floor plan is carefully designed to ensure that every workspace benefits from natural light. Moreover, it offers outdoor views to the staff throughout the day. Interior landscape has been incorporated, creating a seamless connection between the workspaces and nature. Break-out areas and the internal courtyard add a welcoming and airy atmosphere to the building.
The design places laboratories on the southern side to maintain controlled temperatures and segregation. Most of the building relies on natural ventilation, except for the office areas. A constant flow of cool breeze circulates through the corridors and canteen via carefully placed openings. However, the openings facilitate cross-ventilation throughout the space.
The design envisions the building as a two-story structure, completing the ground floor in the initial phase. The RCC design optimizes concrete usage by incorporating a flat slab with peripheral beams only. The entrance porch features a filler slab, combining mud bowls and glass to create an interplay of light.
The building’s key features make full use of the timeless charm of exposed bricks. Additionally, a strikingly crafted twisted brick column at the entrance embodies the design philosophy of the entire space.
In the courtyard, an exposed brick jaali wall forms a backdrop for the modest stage. Elsewhere, the exposed brick walls—some curved, others straight—create areas that enable the Client to highlight their ideologies and growth narrative.
The exposed brick elements are beautifully complemented by the understated yet impressive Kotah stone flooring. Moreover, this grounding material offers a sense of stability. Additionally, it calms the minds of those who occupy the space. Timeless in its appeal, it continues to inspire across generations.
The reception area, in contrast, features a striking combination of Jaisalmer stone and Kotah stone, adding a touch of elegance to the entryway.
Bricks and Kotah stone create a solid, grounded feel, while the furniture introduces a playful and light atmosphere. Moreover, these two elements work in harmony. Thus, creating an inspiring and motivating environment that fosters productivity.
The modular furniture, in vibrant earthy tones, contrasts beautifully with the more muted hues of the walls and flooring. The high, exposed ceilings in the office areas, corridors, and canteen enhance the sense of openness. Decorative open false ceilings in the reception and workstation areas provide a structural base for the landscape to seamlessly extend throughout the space.
The building utilizes materials such as cement, steel, glass, paints, and furniture, all of which contain recycled content and are Green-Pro certified. Recharge pits direct harvested rainwater back into the ground. The system recycles wastewater for flushing and landscaping. Optimized water fixtures maximize efficiency. Energy-efficient technologies and fixtures reduce lighting and air conditioning consumption.
This building is a true reflection of visionary design, where sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics come together seamlessly. Vachana, the principal architect, has skillfully crafted a space that not only supports the needs of its occupants but also nurtures a positive, inspiring atmosphere. Her dedication to sustainable architecture and innovative design has brought this project to life, resulting in a space that will stand as an enduring example of thoughtful, eco-conscious architecture.
