  • This Beautiful Bungalow Design is Adorned with Courtyards & Terraces | DesigNiche Architecture

This beautiful bungalow design is a fine blend of comfort and peace. The client purchased this already-built house located on the main road with a lush green park at its rear. The very respectable personality (owner) discussed his years of hard work and now his dream for a peaceful, airy, green and thoughtful home for his family. The architect envisioned an enticing bungalow with green courtyards and terraces within the existing built structure.

The planning and designing of the house is done to incorporate all the three generations’ requirements and visions. They have their personal spaces as well as indoor-outdoor living spaces at different levels providing multiple family interactions/gathering spots. The triple height courtyard with skylight in the staircase well enlightens the entire house throughout the day and has become the heart of the house.

    Embedding Nature

The positive psychological impact of green spaces has come as an important realization in the project. Outdoor terraces and internal courtyard have been designed as an integral part of the house. Front façade has been detailed so as to incorporate the existing tree that adds aesthetic value to the house both from outside and inside and provides privacy to the front terraces and rooms. Rear park has been visually brought into the rooms by providing the jaali façade towards North while retaining the privacy.

    Entrance

At its elongated porch, stands a bespoke grand entrance door, a sculptural composition of layered timber punctuated with glass inserts. These carefully positioned glass inlays are not merely decorative, they choreograph sunlight into the interior, casting dynamic light patterns that shift with the sun’s movement, animating the foyer through the day.

Framed by vertical grooves, ambient lighting, and a subtle vertical garden, this transitional space blurs the boundary between the outdoors and indoors, offering a poetic welcome that is both bold and inviting.

Opening through the sculptural main door, the foyer exudes quiet luxury with its intricate stone inlay medallion and rich material palette. The double-height volume enhances the spatial drama, while the cascading chandelier mirrors the daylight patterns cast from above. A floating wooden staircase anchors the space with warmth, against a textured stone backdrop subtly lit to celebrate its natural grain, setting the tone for a refined yet grounded home.

    Bar Area

Tucked away like a well-kept secret, this home bar is designed to be a luxurious yet grounded escape within the residence. Anchored in a bold, charcoal-toned palette, the cabinetry makes a powerful first impression with its matte finish, integrated wine racks, and subtle antique detailing. A rich, wine-hued marble countertop adds warmth and elegance, acting as a tactile focal point that contrasts the otherwise moody ambiance.

The bar counter features vertical fluted panels that add rhythm and visual texture, while pendant lighting and concealed LED strips above subtly dramatize the space, creating a lounge-like atmosphere that shifts effortlessly from day to night. Floor-to-ceiling sheers allow natural light to filter in, diffusing the intensity of the darker finishes and balancing the space with softness and lightness.

    Design Details

Framed by a coffered ceiling in dark wood with linear lighting insets, the design blurs the line between residential comfort and boutique luxury. This is not just a functional zone, it’s a statement of lifestyle, where design and detail pour in equal measure.

    Triple-height Atrium

The Heart of the Home – A Soaring Atrium of Light and Texture. The architects designed this triple-height atrium to serve as the central soul of the home. Bringing in light, air, and a sense of openness. A long skylight above fills the space with ever-changing natural light, creating beautiful patterns on the dramatic grey stone feature wall.

A cluster of copper hanging lights adds warmth, drawing the eye upward and tying all three levels together. The floating wooden staircase with glass and brass handrails adds to the lightness and modern character of the space.

    Private Bedrooms

The bedrooms in this residence are a gentle reflection of personality and comfort. Here, each space evokes a distinct mood through a careful balance of tone, texture, and atmosphere.

The master suite leans into muted sophistication, soft blush tones, and warm lighting, creating a sense of calm and understated elegance. In contrast, the children’s rooms are vibrant and youthful. Here, playful colors and a sense of openness encourage imagination and ease.

A vintage-inspired bedroom tells a more timeless story, romantic, relaxed, and textural. Also, embeds an air of old-world charm that feels both personal and familiar. Meanwhile, the bunk room, with its wooden accents and geometric flooring, carries a rustic yet playful spirit. Making room inviting, warm, and full of quiet energy.

Across all rooms, the design language is consistent. Material richness, natural light, and a harmonious color palette that creates comfort without noise. It’s a home that speaks softly yet deeply, layered, lived-in, and emotionally connected.

    Terrace

The terraces and balconies in this residence are not just outdoor add-ons, they are calm, architectural pauses in the overall spatial rhythm. Framed with clean lines, softened by landscape elements, and detailed with materials that echo the interior language, these spaces feel like a natural extension of the home.

The interior architecture ensures a seamless transition, wide openings, consistent flooring palettes, and restrained wall finishes carry the design story outward. Each terrace is shaped to invite light, air, and stillness, creating intimate corners for reflection and everyday rituals. Together, they blur the boundaries between inside and out, making nature a quiet participant in the home’s atmosphere.
