Tesor Designs is a design firm based in the city of Bengaluru. The firm specializes in creating spaces that beautifully blend contemporary design with traditional elements. Their design approach emphasizes thoughtful curation, ensuring that every detail of a space serves both aesthetic and practical purposes. This approach has been well-received in the design community, particularly for how it preserves the essence of tradition while meeting the demands of modern living.
In this conversation, Tesor Designs reveals their journey into the world of interior and design.
My passion for design began with paints. My father worked with Nerolac paints for the longest time and we were always discussing & experimenting with color at home. This combined with my love for handloom and home decor, formed the core of my passion towards interior design. I’ve always appreciated playing with patterns, textures & art forms.
We (the directors), of Tesor Designs, had all worked on designing our respective homes around the same time frame and arrived at a couple of conclusions that,
As a team, we felt this was something we could address. And we set about putting together an organization and team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design. Constantly, evolving and adapting to new trends and technologies while staying true to our core values of honesty and transparency.
Our design approach is centered around the client. Their home must capture the true essence of the people living within. We start by delving into their personal tastes, preferences, and daily routines altogether, to ensure that every design decision aligns with their unique lifestyle. Rather than imposing a single style, we craft spaces that resonate with who our clients are. Overall, creating environments that are both functional and deeply personal. Moreover, this client-centric philosophy allows us to transform each project into a reflection of their individuality. As a result, spaces not only look great but also feel genuinely right for them.
Our inspiration behind design ideations comes from our clients. Their unique personalities, preferences, and lifestyles guide our creative process, ensuring that each design is tailored to their individual needs and desires. We believe that the best designs are those that reflect the essence of the people who live in them. By listening to our clients and understanding their vision, we transform their spaces into sanctuaries that truly feel like home. Since we work with clients across budget ranges, one of our philosophies is to create a signature design or element in each home, around which the home’s story is woven.
Our signature style is transitional, blending two or more styles and being fearless with colors and textures. We delight in experimenting with hues, bringing pops of vibrant colors wherever needed. Furthermore, by blending diverse styles and bold color combinations, we create spaces that are both lively and harmonious.
We prioritize our core values of accountability, honesty and transparency and reflect these principles in our work. Integrity and openness guide our interactions with clients, partners, and team members, fostering trust and collaboration throughout the design process. If we’ve taken the responsibility of a client’s home we feel duty bound to ensure we go out of our way and get it done!
As we mentioned previously, we typically play with transitional styles & pops of colors. “The Zen Home” is one of our projects where we took a completely different approach. We designed the space in a Japandi theme as per the client’s preferences, incorporating very subtle elements and minimal colors.
Pinterest and Instagram are both a boon and a curse. While they showcase a wealth of creative designs, they can also set unrealistic expectations and sometimes create pressure to meet idealized standards. On the other hand, CRM and project management tools are invaluable. They help us streamline processes, manage client relationships, and maintain organization throughout the project lifecycle. By using these tools, we can establish effective workflows, track progress, and ensure that every project is executed efficiently and to the highest standards.
It’s a known fact that a well-designed space definitely fosters a good, happy environment. It enhances not only the aesthetic appeal but also the functionality of a space, contributing to overall well-being and comfort. If any design induces frustration and irritation, lacks comfort, complicates usability and acts as an encumbrance in daily usage, it is no surprise that it would affect the client’s mood.
We are delighted at the access to a large range of materials these days, which allows us to shortlist the right material palette based on two main factors: budget and availability. If a material is not available, we make it a priority to find suitable alternatives that align with the design while staying within budget constraints. This approach ensures that we maintain both the aesthetic vision and practical requirements of each project.
Animal welfare is one thing I am inclined towards. Advocating for and supporting the well-being of animals is a cause close to my heart. I find great fulfillment in contributing to initiatives that promote animal rights, rescue efforts, and overall welfare.
Happy handovers, the moment we give the final handover to a client and see them all happy, bring us a profound sense of fulfilment. Witnessing our work come to life and seeing the joy and satisfaction on our client’s faces is the ultimate reward. It’s the culmination of our hard work, creativity, and dedication. These moments of success and client happiness drive us to continue pursuing excellence in every project we undertake.
One of the commitments I want to make to myself is to continue to stay open & curious. One thing I genuinely believe is that we never stop learning and evolving, no matter what stage or age we reach. When we get an opportunity to get better or learn something new, I’d love to continue to embrace it with open arms because the opportunity to learn is a rare luxury.
Again, one legacy I would like to leave is making a meaningful impact for animals. Our cities and towns are growing at an unimaginable pace and lives are changing overnight. I often find that we forget that we share this planet with other species. Whether through advocacy, support for rescue organizations, or contributions to animal welfare initiatives, I want to hopefully be one of the many voices for animals and work with organizations to craft policies that improve their lives.
