In this conversation, Ar. Neitin Kshhirsagar reveals his journey into the world of architecture and design.

What is the story of your passion for architecture?

As the Principal Architect of GroupARC Architects and Interior Designers, I bring a strong passion for design that blends creativity with a focus on functionality and user experience. I approach architecture with a commitment to creating spaces that not only look beautiful but also serve their purpose effortlessly. I’m excited about the future of design, especially the potential of AI to boost adaptability and flexibility in architecture, though I’m careful to preserve design integrity. Even after 30 years in the field, I tackle each new project with the same energy and enthusiasm as if it were my very first.

What pushed you to commence your own interior design studio?

Starting my design studio came from a desire to create a distinct architectural voice and pursue my own vision without limits. Early in my career, I noticed my unique approach to merging form and function, especially in crafting spaces that feel meaningful and impactful. I also saw this as a chance to build a practice that values innovation and quality over convention. Thus, this freedom lets me experiment with materials, layouts, and new technologies like AI.

Journey of Design Process!

Could you write in short about the philosophy you go with when designing a certain project?

My design philosophy focuses on creating spaces that are functional and meaningful, emphasizing simplicity and adaptability. In every project, I aim to understand its purpose, the users’ needs, and its environmental impact. Furthermore, I believe in a “less is more” approach—removing the unnecessary to let the space’s essential qualities shine. This simplicity brings clarity and provides flexibility, especially for spaces that need to evolve, like hospitals or residential interiors.

What is the inspiration behind your concept developments and design ideations?

My design inspiration stems from practical observation, cultural influences, and a deep curiosity about how spaces shape human experiences. I start each project by identifying the core needs of those who will use the space, creating a foundation for environments that feel intuitive and purposeful. Cultural context is essential too. I believe design should honor its surroundings, so I often draw from local architecture, art, and history to add authenticity. This approach influences material choices and spatial layouts, giving each design a unique character that feels both modern and connected to its environment.

Amid the flood of online design trends, defining my signature style has been a journey of focusing on what truly resonates, not just what’s popular. I aim to create spaces with purpose and simplicity, where form follows function without unnecessary details. I’m drawn to timeless, understated aesthetics with clean lines, natural materials, and balanced proportions—qualities that endure and adapt across projects. Trends are exciting, but they’re often fleeting. To me, a signature style means staying true to principles that bring depth and integrity to my work: spatial clarity, thoughtful materials, and a strong connection to context.

What values do you prioritize in your life and how do they reflect in your way of work?

The values I prioritize—integrity, curiosity, and resilience—shape my work approach. Integrity forms my foundation; I stay honest and transparent with clients and my team. This ensures a commitment to quality and authenticity in each project. Curiosity drives my creativity and keeps me learning. In architecture, it means exploring new materials, technologies, and design methods to innovate and push boundaries. Resilience is crucial, as architecture brings unique challenges with every project. This value keeps me focused, adapting to setbacks and learning from each experience. It encourages me to see every challenge as a chance to grow and improve.

A Sneak Peek Into The Projects By GroupARC Architects and Interior Designers!

Could you share the story of a project which has truly challenged you go beyond your conventional style of design?

Designing a mixed-use high-rise building pushed me beyond my usual style. This project aimed to combine commercial spaces, luxury residences, and public areas within a single towering structure. The building’s vast scale demanded a shift in my design approach, especially in circulation, structural integrity, and energy efficiency. I rethought my typical process, using vertical zoning to create smooth transitions between commercial, residential, and public areas. This approach required meticulous planning of circulation routes to ensure both privacy and accessibility—a unique challenge in a building where diverse spaces were stacked vertically.

With the technological advancements, which is the one tool you feel is a blessing to deal with design challenges?

With advancing technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an invaluable tool for tackling design challenges. BIM enables us to create detailed 3D models that integrate all aspects of a building’s design—structure, HVAC, and lighting—into one collaborative environment. Its true strength lies in facilitating real-time collaboration across disciplines. Architects, engineers, and contractors can work together in the same model, identifying potential issues early and avoiding costly changes later in construction.

What role do you think a well designed interior space has on the users mood and workability and how do you achieve it in your designs?

A well-designed interior profoundly impacts users’ mood, productivity, and well-being. Thoughtful spaces foster positivity, sharpen focus, and reduce stress. In offices, hospitals, or homes, elements like lighting, layout, and materials create a balanced, welcoming atmosphere that supports needs for concentration, relaxation, or healing. To achieve this, I begin by understanding the space’s purpose and its occupants’ needs. I focus on natural light, airflow, and acoustics to enhance comfort, making spaces feel open and calm. Materials play a key role, too—textures like wood and natural stone bring warmth and familiarity. Moreover, it creates a grounded, harmonious environment.

Considering the wide range of materials available today, how do you choose the right material palette which aligns with your design language and the client aspirations?

Choosing the right material palette balances my design principles with the client’s aspirations, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. I prioritize materials that add authenticity and quality, like stone, wood, or glass, which bring warmth, texture, and durability. I select finishes that complement the space’s architectural form, ensuring a cohesive look without overwhelming the design. Each material is tested for both its visual appeal and functional role, such as durability in high-traffic areas or sound absorption in communal spaces.

Beyond Design!

Apart from designing, which are other hobbies that inspire you to keep going?

Beyond design, I find inspiration in hobbies that help me step back, refresh, and see things from new perspectives. Photography and traveling draw me in, as both encourage me to notice details, patterns, and environments differently. Exploring new places and capturing moments lets me appreciate the world’s textures, colors, and forms, fueling my design creativity.

Which aspect of interior designing brings you the sense of fulfilment?

I feel the sheer moment of materialization of a concept—the transformation of an idea into a tangible, immersive environment. Watching textures, colors, lighting, and layout come together to form a cohesive, functional space is truly fulfilling. The challenge of balancing aesthetics with practicality—ensuring every design choice is both visually appealing and functional—is what drives me and fuels my passion for interior design.

Looking ahead in the future, what are some of the commitments to yourself to help you grow as an individual?

Looking ahead, I am committed to continuous learning, expanding my creative horizons, and staying true to my core values. I also plan to focus on enhancing my leadership skills and mentoring the next generation of designers. Additionally, I aim to balance professional ambition with personal well-being. Prioritizing mindfulness and introspection will help me stay connected to my passions and hobbies, which fuel my creativity.

Beyond professional achievements, what personal legacy do you hope reaches the masses and can make an impact on their lives?

Beyond professional achievements, I want my personal legacy to be based on the belief that design can profoundly impact lives. Also, it can enhance connection, well-being, and sustainability. I aim to be remembered not only for creating beautiful spaces but also for making architecture and interior design accessible and meaningful to all, regardless of background or circumstances.
