What is the story of your passion for design?

I have always longed to be an artist who can design spaces through their vision. Therefore when we started our home renovation, I had many chances to stay during construction and selection of each product. That is the beginning of my lifelong love of interior design. I still possess a passion for observing the space and obtaining knowledge of interior design.

What pushed you to commence your interior design studio?

I would say my family, my boss, and my clients. Whenever I designed something for my projects and executed they praised my work. And that comments helped me to keep going and work harder to make them feel more proud. After a few years of handling projects at my work and personal projects of family and friends, I decided to start my studio.

    Journey of Design Process!

Could you write in short about the philosophy you go with when designing a certain project?

Every single time, the customer’s story and background inspire us to design their home, to their taste and wish. I am passionate about creating spaces that not only serve their purpose but also evoke a sense of wonder and connection. Each project is a confluence of visionary design and contextual sensitivity. Thus, yielding architectural works that are both enduring and transformative, seamlessly intertwining with their surroundings while honoring sustainability.

What is the inspiration behind your concept developments and design ideations?

My design inspirations arise from the sublime elegance of nature and the profound narratives embedded in historical architecture. I draw deeply from the organic interplay of light, form, and shadow. Thus merging these elements with the cultural and emotional contexts of the inhabitants. This approach, enriched by continual intellectual and artistic collaboration, allows me to create spaces that transcend mere functionality, embodying a sophisticated synthesis of beauty and purpose.

Amidst the dynamic landscape of online trends, I honed my signature style by prioritizing authenticity and timeless elegance. By staying true to my vision and understanding the needs of my clients, I’ve cultivated a distinctive aesthetic that stands the test of time.

What values do you prioritize in your life and how do they reflect in your way of work?

In both life and work, I prioritize integrity, respect, creativity, and empathy. These values form the foundation of my approach, guiding every decision and interaction. Integrity ensures that I stay true to my principles, delivering designs that are not just aesthetically pleasing but also ethically sound. Respect your co-workers and all the people around you. Creativity allows me to push boundaries and explore
innovative solutions, while empathy nurtures meaningful connections with clients and communities, resulting in spaces that resonate on a deeply human level.

A Sneak Peek Into The Projects By Aakashi Mehta Designs

Could you share the story of a project which has truly challenged you go beyond your conventional style of design?

One of the most challenging parts of a project isn’t designing the space, it’s usually managing the client’s expectations. Making sure you’re on the same page as your client is perhaps one of the most important aspects of a successful project. I can think of the project that I did last year where I had to design a retail jewelry shop and go beyond my conventional practice. Convincing the client to adopt some finishes to give it a look as designed is a big task. But overall I met the client’s expectations and the project turned out well. hence, while my approach is client-centric, the process drives me to learn and unlearn with every commission, resulting in an ever-growing and evolving practice. I have never aspired to be a commercial practice or a factory.

With the technological advancements, which is the one tool you feel is a blessing to deal with design challenges?

One essential tool for dealing with design challenges in the face of technology advancements is Autocad and Sketchup which enable us to create precise 2D and 3D models and streamline the design process. Also, I feel Pinterest and Instagram are excellent tools for design inspiration and trend discovery.

What role do you think a well designed interior space has on the users mood and workability and how do you achieve it in your designs?

Thoughtful interior design can transform a space into a supportive environment that enhances mood, boosts productivity, and promotes well-being. We achieve these by incorporating the principles like purpose, color psychology, lighting, furniture layouts, comfort, personalization, and feedback.

Considering the wide range of materials available today, how do you choose the right material palette which aligns with your design language and the client aspirations?

Selecting the right material palette involves a careful balance of aesthetics, functionality, and client aspirations. I begin by understanding the client’s vision and the project’s contextual nuances. By exploring a variety of materials, I focus on those that complement the design language, ensuring durability and sustainability. A harmonic blend that satisfies both the architectural narrative and the client’s desires is the outcome of this careful selecting procedure.

    Beyond Design!

Apart from designing, which are other hobbies that inspire you to keep going?

I think my love for travel and finding design everywhere I go. I also dance and like to organize things for my kids.

Which aspect of interior designing brings you the sense of fulfillment?

The aspect of interior designing that brings me the greatest sense of fulfillment is crafting spaces that resonate deeply with their inhabitants. Witnessing how thoughtful design transforms daily experiences and enhances well-being is profoundly rewarding. This impact of creating environments that truly enrich lives is incomparable.

Looking ahead in the future, what are some of the commitments to yourself to help you grow as an individual?

I commit to continually embracing innovation, staying at the forefront of sustainable design, and nurturing my creativity through travel and cultural immersion. I’ll seek out collaborations that challenge and persuade me, and remain dedicated to lifelong learning to evolve both as an architect and an individual. I have come a long way and yet have miles to go. slow and steady win the race.
