Inspired by the ancient philosophy of origami, ORI Folded Dreams transforms metal into contemporary sculptural design through craftsmanship and precision. Furthermore, its distinctive hand-folding technique reimagines rigid aluminium and brass as functional works of art. Ultimately, every creation balances innovation, artistry, and purpose, seamlessly enriching contemporary living through thoughtful design. Every creation begins with purpose, allowing material, geometry, and storytelling to evolve naturally into timeless forms. Inspired by nature, architecture, and human experiences, the brand celebrates thoughtful design that enriches everyday living beyond utility.
Its signature collections demonstrate how engineered precision and handcrafted detailing can coexist to create emotionally resonant objects. ORI Spirituals reimagines sacred symbols through contemporary décor while preserving their cultural essence and timeless significance. Beginning with ORI’s journey, the founders reveal the inspirations shaping their evolving design collections. Further, they explore how thoughtful design transforms spaces, nurtures connections, and enriches everyday living. At its core, ORI unites craftsmanship, culture, and contemporary design through a philosophy rooted in purpose. Ultimately, the conversation celebrates folding tradition into modern living through innovation, artistry, and enduring cultural narratives.
Q: ORI Folded Dreams is an intriguing name. What does it represent, and how does it reflect your design philosophy?
ORI comes from Origami, the art of folding. We apply that philosophy to metal, transforming rigid aluminium and brass into sculptural forms through our hand-folding technique. Folded Dreams represents the journey of turning ideas into meaningful, functional objects through design and craftsmanship.
Q: Every brand begins with a purpose. What gap does ORI seek to fill in contemporary design?
ORI was born from a desire to bridge the gap between innovation, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. After years of developing our unique metal-folding technique, we wanted to create products where the technique itself becomes the foundation of the design. By transforming rigid metal into sculptural, functional objects, we bring a fresh perspective to contemporary design. Our mission is to bring artistic design into everyday living through pieces that are not only functional but also enrich the spaces they inhabit. Every ORI creation reflects the harmony of engineering, handcraftsmanship, and timeless design.
Q: When you begin designing a product, what comes first—the function, the material, or the story?
It always begins with function. We believe every object should first serve a purpose. As the design evolves, the story begins to emerge naturally. We draw inspiration from nature, geometry, and the possibilities of our folding technique, allowing the narrative to grow alongside the product rather than imposing it from the start. The result is a piece where function, technique, and storytelling come together seamlessly.
Q: Many products are made to be used, but the best ones become part of people’s lives. How do you design for that deeper connection?
We design with simplicity, authenticity and longevity in mind. Every ORI piece is unique, as none of our products are mass-produced. Beyond function, we want our designs to evoke emotion by creating beautiful experiences through light and shadow. By day, they exist as sculptural objects; by night, they come alive with light, transforming the atmosphere of the spaces they inhabit.
Q: Is there a particular product that defines ORI Folded Dreams better than any other? What makes it so significant?
The ORI Chair best represents our philosophy. Inspired by the Licuala fan palm, it embodies our signature folding technique, craftsmanship, and the harmonious interplay of metal and reclaimed wood. We transformed a sharp, sculptural form into a chair that feels unexpectedly inviting. We carefully calibrated the seat, backrest, and posture to deliver ergonomic comfort and lasting support. Every angle serves both aesthetic expression and functional performance. We believe rigid materials can become timeless, functional works of art through thoughtful design.
Q: ORI Spirituals feels like a natural extension of the brand. What inspired you to explore this direction?
ORI Spirituals grew from our belief that design should enrich every aspect of life, including moments of reflection. Somewhere, in our own way, we all have a spiritual inclination. The visuals and atmosphere of the 2025 Kumbh Mela left a deep impression on us, inspiring us to explore this theme through the language of design.
As product designers, we enjoy experimenting with materials and discovering new ways to express familiar ideas. For this collection, we’ve drawn inspiration from elements such as the rudraksh, the diya, the dhoop, the Ganga, and dhatura, interpreting them through our signature folding technique and contemporary design language.
We wanted to create spiritual objects that embody the same craftsmanship, simplicity, and sculptural quality that define ORI Folded Dreams. We are introducing the first pieces in this collection now, with larger lighting installations and statement pieces to follow.
Q: Spiritual objects are deeply personal. How did you approach designing pieces that feel both contemporary and timeless?
We focused on purity of form and function rather than ornamentation. The first objects in this collection are a series of dhoop stands and diya holders. The rising incense smoke through the folded canopy, combined with the interplay of light and shadow created by the diya, evokes a sense of calm and enhances the ambience. By combining clean geometries with handcrafted detailing and meaningful symbolism, we created pieces that feel contemporary while remaining rooted in tradition.
Q: Many of your pieces can be used as décor as well as meaningful gifts. Was this dual purpose intentional from the beginning?
Absolutely. We wanted each piece to have a lasting presence in a home while also making a thoughtful gift. Whether purchased for oneself or someone else, every object is designed to carry both beauty and meaning.
Q: ORI Folded Dreams has evolved into multiple collections over time. Could you tell us about your current collections and what makes each one unique?
ORI Folded Dreams is now three and a half years old, and our collections reflect the journey we’ve taken as designers. Our debut collection was inspired by nature, where we explored organic forms and translated them into sculptural, functional objects through our folding technique. Our second collection drew inspiration from jewels, celebrating precision, craftsmanship, and the beauty of intricate details.
Today, we are gradually building ORI Spirituals, a collection inspired by symbols, rituals, and objects that hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. While each collection has its own identity, all are united by ORI’s enduring design philosophy and craftsmanship. Meanwhile, our earlier collections continue to evolve through thoughtfully introduced new designs and refined interpretations. At the same time, every new creation strengthens the dialogue between innovation, tradition, and craftsmanship. As a result, our collections grow organically, preserving their essence while embracing fresh creative possibilities. Ultimately, every collection reflects ORI’s commitment to timeless design, continuous evolution, and meaningful craftsmanship.
Q: If you could leave readers with one thought about design, not as an industry, but as a way of living, what would it be?
Good design is not about owning more, it’s about living with objects that have meaning. When something is thoughtfully designed, it enriches everyday life, tells a story, and becomes a part of who we are?
