The eighth installment of the Isola Design Festival embraces the theme “This Future is Currently Unavailable.” The theme urges to walk around the role of design and new craftsmanship in shaping the future of our planet. The digital and physical design platform Isola is organising this year’s festival. The venue introduces new venues such as Lampo Milano, WAO PL7, and Galleria Bonelli. This edition showcases the work of eighty-five participants, presenting a vibrant array of contemporary design expressions. From experimental furniture to innovative digital installations, it exhibits the diverse and dynamic landscape of Dutch design. 6. Alcova

The seventh edition of Alcova, a platform for independent design, is happening in two beautiful villas near Milan, Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi. Villa Borsani, designed by Osvaldo Borsani in 1945, is famous for its modern architecture, lovely gardens, and special features like a Lucio Fontana fireplace. Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, built as a summer retreat for a noble family, showcases 19th-century villa architecture in Lombardy. During Alcova, both villas will host a selected mix of experimental designers, institutions, and various talks and performances, all exploring the future of living and design, making it a must visit.

7. 5VIE Design Week

This event is about celebrating the amalgamation of designers, collectibles, fine craftsmanship, and innovative art and design combinations within Milan’s historic core. This year’s “Unlimited Design Orchestra” aims to build on last year’s theme, “Design for Good,” highlighting the importance of mutual care amongst human beings. Musical elements, particularly orchestras, become the source of inspiration, seeking to emphasise the intrinsic human dimensions of design. This approach will take us back to the cultural movement initiated by Francesco Petrarca in the 14th century, which revitalised the concept of ‘studiahumanitatis’ and placed humans at the forefront, giving rise to humanism.

8. Doppia Firma – Double Signature Project

In its eight installments, it celebrates the fusion of design innovation with the rich and traditional master artisans, resulting in a unique collaboration between designers and skilled craftsmen or craftswomen. Revolving around the theme of Gret Milan, this year’s event showcases a diverse range of pairings. Among the notable collaborations featured are Ahmad Angawi with FratelliBoffi, Elliot Barnes with PietroVirzi, Marco Campardo with FonderiaArtisticaBattaglia, Cristina Celestino with Serapian, and many more. 9. Artemest

It will host the second edition of L’Appartamento, a showcase highlighting the exquisite craftsmanship and design of Italy. Located in Residenza Vignale, a Milanese mansion dating back to 1905–1907 and situated in the lively 5VIE district, the event features designed spaces by six renowned interior design studios, Elicyon, GACHOT, Rottet Studio, Studio Meshary A lNassar, Tamara Feldman Design, and VSHD Design. Each studio will transform a room using Artemest furniture, lighting fixtures, interior décor, and artworks from top Italian artisans and brands.

10. Design Variations Venue

Mosca Partners, along with architecture firm Park Associatiis, are ready to design the exhibition spaces at this venue, which was a former garage situated in Milan’s historic Darsena area, within the vibrant 5VIE district. This year, a site-specific installation titled “Corridoio” by artist Nathalie Du Pasquier is going to be the talk of the town. Du Pasquierwill will create twelve large decorative panels using MEG, known for its resistance to light and harsh weather conditions, making it suitable for outdoor and architectural applications. Embracing a sustainable approach, this artwork will extend beyond the design week.

11. Capsule Plaza

It is to be hosted at two distinct venues: SpazioMaiocchi, a former industrial site in PortaVenezia, and the well-known Milanese hotspot, 10 Corso Como. Blending aspects of a trade fair and a collective exhibition, Capsule Plaza gathers together designers and companies from diverse creative sectors, fostering connections between industry and culture through an engaging and multifaceted presentation covering interiors, architecture, beauty, technology, innovation, and craftsmanship. Alessio Ascari, is the founder and creative mind behind Capsule, alongside architect Paul Cournet.

12. Superdesign Show

Superstudio’s Superdesign show makes a comeback with its 2024 edition, placing a strong emphasis on embracing innovative ideas. This year’s event is set to be a diverse platter of traditions, virtual territories, sustainable technologies, and comprehensive choices. With the participation of 80 companies from 11 nations across 3 continents and showcasing nearly 40 cutting-edge projects, this show solidifies its reputation as a must-visit for designers, companies, and enthusiasts alike. The theme, “THINKING DIFFERENT—Everything, Everywhere, Everyone,” encourages exploration of alternative design approaches. Art director Giulio Cappellini opts for a striking bright green hue for the venue’s walls, symbolising nature, peace, and innovation.

13. Kodama- The Spirit of Forest

Renowned architect Kengo Kuma presents “Kodama,” an exhibition that celebrates Japanese culture by bringing together design and art. The exhibition finds its home in the Albed showroom, where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of Japanese aesthetics. At the core of the exhibition stands a magnificent sculpture named “Kodama,”  a tribute to the transcendent spirits that inhabit Japanese forests.

14. Dropcity
