Located in a residential neighbourhood in Rohini, Delhi, Echoes 2.0 brings warmth, nostalgia, and a sense of belonging to the café experience. UrbanMistrii Studio, led by Principal Architect Ritika Rakhiani, designed the 2,020-square-foot space to feel welcoming and familiar.

Unlike conventional hospitality spaces that often encourage quick visits, the café invites guests to slow down and settle in. It creates a homely atmosphere where people can relax, connect, and feel at ease.

Inclusive Café Experience

The brief called for a destination that could cater to a diverse audience. It needed to welcome groups of friends gathering over afternoon coffee, professionals seeking a quiet corner to work, and families celebrating special occasions, such as an 80th birthday. The space had to adapt seamlessly to different occasions and age groups. The challenge was to create an inclusive setting without making it feel generic. It also needed to accommodate a variety of experiences while maintaining a strong and memorable identity.

The project transformed an empty stilt-floor space within a residential building into a café. A centrally positioned staircase divided the floor plate into two distinct zones, presenting a unique spatial challenge.

Rather than viewing this separation as a limitation, the design approach used it to create a layered spatial journey. Careful planning and thoughtful zoning connected the two halves into a cohesive experience. As visitors move through the café, each zone unfolds gradually, adding depth to the overall experience.

Flexible Dining Spaces

The interiors are composed as a sequence of varied yet interconnected settings. Intimate corners offer privacy and comfort, while a dedicated dining area caters to more formal gatherings. Elsewhere, curtain ceilings and delicate railing details evoke the charm of a residential balcony, blurring the boundaries between indoor hospitality and the familiarity of home. A large open bar anchors the social heart of the café, complemented by flexible seating arrangements that can effortlessly transition between everyday dining and larger celebrations or events.

At the heart of the design lies an eclectic aesthetic rooted in warmth and residential comfort. Inspired by the familiarity of lived-in spaces, the interiors draw upon a carefully curated palette of rich walnut timber, textured brick finishes, marble accents, patterned wallpapers, and soft upholstered furnishings. These materials were selected not only for their visual appeal but also for their ability to evoke a sense of permanence and comfort. Together, they create an environment that feels timeless rather than trend-driven.

Warm Material Palette

The colour palette further reinforces this atmosphere. Deep walnut tones, earthy brick hues, muted reds, and soft beige fabrics work in harmony to create a sense of warmth and intimacy. Architectural details such as fluted surfaces, arched niches, curated artwork, and layered textures enrich the visual experience, ensuring that each corner reveals a new detail upon closer inspection. The result is a space that feels both sophisticated and deeply personal.

More than any individual design element, Echoes 2.0 derives its identity from the emotions it evokes. The project’s greatest strength lies in its ability to recreate the comfort and familiarity of a cherished home within a hospitality setting. Every space feels distinct, yet connected by a consistent language of warmth, materiality, and understated elegance.
