“Give us a home that reflects who we are as people. “Everything else is temporary!” This was the simple brief from a celebrity actor couple. They are well known for their work in Marathi cinema and theatre. Coming from modest middle-class backgrounds, they have remained deeply connected to their roots despite their success. Childhood memories, values and everyday experiences continue to shape their outlook, inspiring a life that balances ambition with authenticity.
For These Marathi Actors, Home Is A Reflection Of Who They Are | Amoeba Design
This philosophy became the foundation of their home, a space that seamlessly weaves together memory and aspiration. Rather than creating a glamorous showpiece, the design focuses on crafting a sanctuary that reflects their journey. Every element brings the warmth of tradition into contemporary living. Together, they create interiors that tell a deeply personal story. The home expresses simplicity and elegance through a timeless design. Every corner reflects the couple’s values, celebrates their past and embraces the future with quiet confidence.
Our design philosophy recognises that we do not need to remain stuck in the past, but we should not discard it either. Our identities remain deeply rooted in our memories and experiences. We spoke with the clients about their fondest memories of previous homes. These conversations helped us identify meaningful elements that we could reinterpret to suit contemporary sensibilities and functional needs.
The familiar checkered cement-tile flooring was retained for its visual and tactile nostalgia, but laid in a straight pattern rather than diagonally to give it a more contemporary expression. The fluted-glass ventilator above the olive-green, Art Deco-inspired door offers a subtle glimpse into the past, while the built-in-style book cupboards reflect their love for reading.
A thoughtfully designed column supporting the swing connects the living area with the open kitchen, creating a sense of continuity and togetherness.
Every element carries a story, almost acting as a time-travel machine that transports them to cherished moments and brings a smile to their faces.
Ultimately, the intention was not to recreate a home frozen in time, but to reinterpret the familiarity, warmth and character of their childhood homes through a contemporary lens, creating a space that feels familiar yet distinctly new—a home where the past and present coexist in harmony.
