In the bustling heart of Gurgaon, we had the opportunity to design Chaukhat, a furniture store with earthy textures that redefine spatial experience through form, materiality, and light. Nestled in Subhash Chowk, this project stands as a testament to the creative vision of Mayank, Founder and Principal Designer of Palm Studio. Delivered in February 2025, the 6,220 sq. ft. store is a carefully orchestrated blend of flow, drama, shapes, mood, and colours, embodying a seamless conversation between tradition and modernity.
Earthy Textures Redefine This Furniture Store Through Form & Light | Palm Studio By Mayank
In designing Chaukhat, our approach was deeply rooted in the balance between restraint and expression of earthy textures. The space embraces a rustic lime wash finish, lending a softness that allows light to interact subtly with the surfaces. The walls and partitions, finished in muted, earthy tones, evoke a timeless warmth, creating a backdrop that feels both grounding and sophisticated. The interplay of textures—matte limewash, natural materials, and handcrafted elements—adds depth, making the space feel inviting yet refined.
To complement this understated material palette, we introduced three bold terracotta arches that punctuate the space with sculptural intent. Beyond their aesthetic presence, these arches serve to balance the irregular shape of the store, bringing a sense of symmetry while adding visual interest. Their curved forms soften the structured geometry of the space, creating a rhythm that guides movement while enhancing the store’s architectural identity.
The partitions were designed strategically, allowing 45-degree angled views through carefully placed cutouts. This design choice keeps the space dynamic, offering glimpses of what lies ahead, subtly guiding visitors through the store and ensuring an element of intrigue and discovery.
To maintain a harmonious backdrop, the overall color palette remains neutral, allowing the furniture pieces to take center stage. The handcrafted pieces—rich in materiality and form—stand out vividly against the subdued surroundings, ensuring that textures, colors, and craftsmanship remain the focal point.
Lighting plays an integral role in defining the mood. Exposed light fixtures cast dynamic shadows that shift throughout the day. The interplay between structured architectural elements and the fluidity of organic textures creates a layered atmosphere. One that is as soulful as it is functional.
This project is a study in restraint—allowing materiality, form, and light to take center stage. The result is a space that feels at once heritage-inspired yet distinctly contemporary. It is a seamless reflection of the brand’s ethos and aesthetic vision.
